No, these are not running sandals in my opinion. The soles are are too thin and there is zero cushioning.

Is the toe box area wide enough for bunions? And also good for plantar fasciatis?

Yes, I believe the toe box accommodates bunions. The strap around the toes is adjustable. Also, I have plantar fasciitis, and of all the Vionic sandals, these are the most comfortable and comforting to the foot pain.
