Eraser (BD)

If you miss the era of over-the-top practical effects, iconic one-liners, and unstoppable action heroes, Eraser is a must-own. It’s Arnold at his most "Arnold," playing a federal marshal who specializes in "erasing" the identities of high-profile witnesses. Why this movie still holds up: Inventive Action: From the legendary "EM railguns" that can see through walls to the infamous airplane parachute chase, the set pieces are creative and genuinely thrilling. Classic Arnold: This film leans into everything we love about Schwarzenegger—he’s physically imposing, dryly funny, and delivers classic lines with perfect timing ("You're luggage"). Solid Supporting Cast: James Caan is fantastic as the scenery-chewing villain, and Vanessa Williams does a great job as the witness who actually holds her own in a fight. Practical Effects: While there's some early CGI (the alligators!), most of the explosions and stunts feel heavy and real in a way modern movies sometimes lack. One thing to note: It’s definitely a product of its time. The plot is a bit predictable, and the physics are... questionable at best. But you don't watch Eraser for a documentary-level realism; you watch it to see a hero take down a high-tech conspiracy with sheer grit. Overall: A top-tier 90s blockbuster that is perfect for a movie night. If you’re a fan of True Lies or Total Recall, this belongs on your shelf.

I remember seeing this film in the theatres when it was originally released in 1996. Great flick, great leads and all I can say is---wow! Next paragraph is an excerpt from Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide. High-octane, high-tech, violent and cartoonish action-thriller about a specialist in the Federal Witness Protection Program who vows to keep a female witness safe and sticks to his word even after he becomes as much a target as she. Explosive, cutting-edge action and special effects give fans their money's worth, and then some. Indefensible on any artistic level, but lots of fun. Maltin gave the film Three Stars out of Four Stars for his review. I give it Five Stars out of Five, a 9.9 out of 10. Buy it and you won't be disappointed. Scwarzanegger and Williams had great chemistry together and I also loved the late greats James Caan, Andy Romano and Robert Pastorelli in their pivotal roles. I saw this film again from an old VHS tape I had taped from cable back in the day. Ironically, I own it on DVD, yet have yet to open and play the DVD. I will one day. My wife and I love a good action adventure film for date night or I'll play them in the background for when I'm working. In this case Eraser is perfect for both of us; a fun throw in any time so when Amazon had a good deal on it, I grabbed it to add to our streaming library. We actually came to Eraser late - never saw it in the theatre, but found it last year one Saturday. Had fun for date - day Saturday and promised we'd keep an eye for it. Got it! Watched again! Still love it. Step into the action as Arnold saves people who've got information the bad guys don't want out - he saves the day, then erases them from being people. Part of an elite group who protect witnesses, Arnold works alone (of course) and is always vigilant. When Lee (wonderful played by underrated actress, Vanessa Williams comes forward to turn on her boss (too little screen time here for the always excellent, James Cromwell) Arnold's John Kruger fixes things. Of course they don't stay "fixed," and soon he's not just fighting the bad guys outside the department, but the mole who is setting him up inside the department. There are the obligatory chase scenes, including one on a plane (and falling from the plane), and at the zoo, but the ending is a favorite of ours. This is great Arnold fun, no catchphrases that caught on here, but it is fun and a great ride. We loved in the first time and came back to buy it, so we'll enjoy it again and again.

Excelente

No, it's not Terminator or T2 but it's certainly up there near the top. Good story, some great characters and some excellent comedy moments and one-liners. It's all complete nonsense of course but excellent entertainment for action movie fans. The picture and sound (stereo amp so I can't comment on the surround sound) are excellent on this Australian import Blu-Ray. As far as I can tell this is the same uncut version as the old US Laser Disc and not the edited version you get with the UK DVD. As Eraser is not available as a UK Blu-Ray the only way to get it in this format is to buy an import. Australia is Region B, the same as the UK so there should be no problems playing it on a standard UK machine.
