A Tool For Pros And Consumers Alike
Park Tool makes high quality tools and specialty products for bike shops, pro bike mechanics and consumers that prefer to do their own maintenance. The MLP-1.2, Master Link Pliers take the "grunt" out of the grunt work of removing a chain. Master links simplify chain removal and re-fitting. Especially if there are more than one bike to maintain (5, and counting!), so the Master Link Pliers do speed things along. The videos on the product page give an adequate overview of product function and are worth watching. In summation, the tool is well made, a great value for the price and a worthy addition to any bench or bike stand! Hope this helps.

Great chain tool
This tool makes taking the chain off, and putting it on extremely easy. It is great for the price, and feels sturdy like all of park tools stuff. If you are waxing/cleaning chains, or just removing them to take off or add links this tool will make it easy!

Made in USA
This review is for a Park Tool MLP1.2 bicycle chain quick connect master link pliers ordered from Amazon on 2026-06-24 and received 2026-06-28. I paid $20.70 including sales tax with free Prime shipping. I've been able to release the SRAM quicklink by other improvised means but most recently doing so cost me just enough time to take some of the fun out of an after work ride so I sat down to order the right tool for the for next time that I need to remove my MTB chain. Knowing that the Park tool is still made in the USA would have saved me 15-30 minutes of justifying the extra cost (not that much in dollars but a big percentage) over the others that are manufactured somewhere else. I haven't used it yet but can comment that the hinge has a big, probably stainless steel rivet, the steel body / frame seems to be finished with a black oxide coating and the handles have textured rubber or rubber-like covers. Out of the box, the pliers were a little stiff but a squirt of WD40 freed them up, probably more a result of cleaning the surfaces that rub than lubricating them. Perfect for one-handed operation. The lack of a return spring is debatable. From my electrician's standpoint of using wire strippers that have the same basic shape as the MP-12 up to hundreds of times a day, strippers with a missing spring would go straight to donating at the local United Cerebral Palsy thrift store but it's not much if any inconvenience for a master link tool used for releasing the link and are probably better without a spring when using the tool to lock the link.

Makes installing and removing missing links painless and quick
If you've ever tried to connect a SRAM Powerlink or a KMC Missing Link, you know that sometimes it's a piece of cake, but most of the time it's not so graceful. I've worked with chains enough to merit trying the Parktool MLP 1.2 pliers out, and it was worth it. The pliers feel quality, with a nice rubberized coating on the handles. To remove (disconnect) a link, you simply stick the tips of the pliers on the outside of the chain rollers where your link is, and squeeze. With little effort, the chain link is disengaged and easily removed. No more fidgeting with a screwdriver, or two pairs of needle nosed pliers - the MLP 1.2 does the job swiftly. To install (connect) a link, it's basically the same - stick the tips in between the chain rollers where the link is, and pull the tool open - no slamming the pedal down, no tugging at opposite chain ends - once again, the MLP 1.2 does the job in mere seconds. The specially shaped plier ends is the secret - they are perfectly shaped to grab a chain roller. If I had to nitpick the product, I guess the only tiny complaint (not enough to remove a star) is that you have to use two hands to pull apart the plier arms when installing a link, but that really doesn't bother me. If I really needed one hand-operated tools, KMC sells separate "opening" and "closing" chain link pliers, but those two tools will cost an extra $6 compared to the equally capable MLP 1.2, without needing twice the rook in my tool box. Finally, the $15 price is fine for a high quality and ultra useful tool.

Love it
Yeah, I mean technically you can do what needs to be done without this tool. But it's under $20 and it's so much faster and easier. Why not just take one more thing off your plate and get the right tool for the job? Park Tool is amazing, their tools are top notch. Consider me a super fan.

Park tool bike chain tool
Works how it should, the one i received seemed used and is dirty… so i knocked a star to 4. A park tool should be pristine as it is one of the best bike tool brands out there.
