Diana: In Pursuit of Love

Tragedy
The emotional pain is searing, the sadness unyielding. I’m so affected by this tragedy that I feel an encompassing heavy depression crushing my equilibrium.I don’t even know why. I didn’t know her and what difference it would make to me if she were alive. All I know is that my mother passed away at basically the same age when I was 14.I don’t think I can consume another work on this subject because it’s entrenching. The book focuses mainly on the second half of of her life and a bit beyond philosophizing about her legacy. If you will it’s part 2 of the authors first book. They compliment each other. It’s not very comprehensive. But the general attempt is to defend her against all of the detractors, maligners, talebearers, and malicious characters who are apologists for the evils committed by this monarchy. It seems like everybody and their brother has an opinion. And, anybody who has ever whiffed her presence within a close proximity of her has written a memoir of their experience. In addition there’s ceaseless bickering between family, friends, colleagues, and associates about what she wanted, said, or would’ve done. This in itself is demonstrative of her larger than life personality and influence. Everyone was smitten by her from in the highest echelons of society to the dregs of the earth.Even her death and its aftermath took at the very least 10 years to sort out by all sorts of departments, heads of State, Governments, and agencies.2.5 billion people tuned in to her funeral, her posthumous charity raised over 100 million dollars and apparently there are 36,000 conspiracy theory websites about her death. The mammoth imprint that she left is irrevocable leaving in its wake an example of love, goodness, independence, and strength.

Enjoyed it
I'm a bit of a Diana tragic, so i loved the book. Haven't read too many on her (other than that Tina Brown one), so this was interesting new information to me, don't know how other's would find it. Also illuminated some of the difficulties facing Diana, and why she may have made some of the decisions she did. She was certainly a trail blazer in every sense of the world. Still missed.

A balanced view of a complex woman
Good. Unbiased - looks at the endearing and the not so, regarding Diana. It makes you realise this woman was on a journey from innocence and ignorance to maturity and confidence. Sadly never quite finishing that journey.

Found this really objective and balanced in opinion ... Especially given Diana is not here to defend herself .. Worth the read

Diana Opened Pandora's Box
The one thing we all have in common is that we all go to school - and one of the subjects we learn is History. After reading the numerous books about Diana, and how she told the world just how deplorable her life was living in the Royal Family, I wonder what Historians think of all this inside scheming within the various Palaces, and also wonder just how much of the History lessons we were taught at school was actually true, as it seems the various Palaces feed the press their own particular slant on a situation whether it be true or not. What is true is that Diana was subjected to mental cruelty by her husband throughout her marriage as he carried on his affair with Camilla right under her nose. No wife could endure that without going through incredible mental torture, and this poor young girl who married for love was never more than the brood mare for the heir and the spare. Her whole adult life became a mission to find someone to love her for herself, she simply didn't understand why she had been rejected, a quest which would in the end result in her tragic death.I missed this book when it was published, only finding it via Kindle, but I find Andrew Morton to be very truthful writing about Diana, after all, she chose him to disclose her true story to. I found reading about Burrell and his behaviour following Diana's death very eye opening, late as I am in discovering this book I'd never read this before. In the years following her death I think Diana would be astonished and appalled at how he's made his living since. It's been quite a revelation reading this book, both about Diana and her husband, but I can't imagine what future Historians will teach their pupils, and it makes me wonder just how much of the History I learned both at school and university is true. The age of instant news media will make future generations studying History be faced with many conflicting stories.Another good book from Andrew Morton, and one worth buying, very interesting indeed.

The Follow-Up To "Diana - Her True Story"
If you have read "Diana - Her True Story" by Andrew Morton, it is a natural next step to read his follow-up "Diana - In Pursuit Of Love". However, this newer book is nowhere near as interesting or dramatic as the original. You get the feeling that Morton is simply cashing in on the success of his first effort. However, there are intriguing parts to this book. The chapter titles speak for themselves, including "Hard Road To Freedom", "The Year Of Living Dangerously", "The Comfort Of Strangers", "In Search Of Love", "They Want To Kill Me" and "The Crowning Of The Queen Of Hearts". It is not difficult to work out which direction Morton is taking, and he replicates his sympathetic analysis of Diana's life, even though he concedes she got some major decisions badly wrong. Even worse, he describes many examples of Diana not taking or even considering the advice of people who were actually on her side and were only trying to help her.Morton overflows with information about Diana's uplifting sense of humour, her time-consuming charity workload, and her friendly approach to the public at large. But he balances this with the obvious realities that she manipulated the media by meeting privately with favoured journalists, had multiple affairs with different men (some of them married), and her irrational and teenage like behaviour by phoning men multiple times a day in order to get attention, for example the respected and highly professional British Pakistani heart and lung surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan. Most interesting is the "inside story" on how and why Diana gave the infamous "Panorama" interview to Martin Bashir. In truth, nobody emerged from that embarrassing episode with any credibility - it appears Bashir slightly tricked Diana into the interview, the BBC could or should have stopped it going on air, and Diana herself lost the most from it - basically her entire credibility evaporated in a flash. For aficionados of British royalty, this is certainly worth reading. And at only 313 pages of large text, it will not take you long to finish it.

Makes you think
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved lady Diana, such a shame she died, but there seems to be many many questions unanswered about her "accident" and how she died, also many of the suggestions given to why she was supposedly killed does make you think, but I doubt we will ever know for sure how, what and why this happened and whether or not her love life, which she craved the love of a man she could not have. Read it it is very good
