Buyer Beware - Poor Quality and a Company That Won't Stand Behind Their Products
Buyer Beware - complete junk with no customer support. I bought this model from BJ's Wholesale club for $199.99 in June of 2015. I live in New England and we have mild summers and only have the need for A/C's on rare occasions. This one lasted just over 1 year and 3 month and was probably used less than a dozen times. Last night the unit came on by itself, although the control panel was blank - no lights or indicators that showed it was running. The only way to shut it off was to unplug it. There is no reset - so after plugging it in and unplugging it several times, I concluded I needed to call customer service for technical support. They told me that it was out of warranty and I would be responsible for the repairs, but couldn't tell me what was wrong. It is pretty scary to think that these units are so cheap that they will completely die after several uses and that the company won't stand behind their products. And for those of you wondering, the unit was installed correctly and was properly used. We just don't want to see another family waste their hard earned money on something of such poor quality. Look for a company that will stand behind their products - I wish I could say "buy American" and be able to follow through with it!

Well featured, easy install. Perhaps a bit too easy?
When shopping for window A/C unit at this price point one can not expect to get the best 8k BTU unit for just $200, but I would expect the installation hardware to be a bit more thorough than what came with this unit. What's in the box?The A/C unit, remote control, installation quick guide, user's manual, various hardware bits, top lip drip cap, foam insert and side curtains.Given that you will be changing the air flow dynamics of your space you should carefully consider the window's seal prior to installing this (or any) unit. A good seal should be made around the unit so no air, water, bugs or debris can creep its way into your house via the window you just opened. With this in mind, you can take my word for it; the equipment provided in this box does not do the job completely. You will need to get creative with other methods of making a good seal to be safe. I won't bore you with what I ended up doing, as I'm sure there are better ways, but just know the installation hardware may leave you wanting something more.Functionality:The unit cools the room very well. I got this unit for a small room I built earlier this year designed for music production, recording and mixing. I chose this unit because it suited the room's size and it was very affordable AND it had the Dehumidify mode. This was important to me because the room I built has a slab concrete floor (for now) and there is a LOT of excess moisture in there at times and I needed something I could leave on all the time without cranking too much juice. The variety of compressor, fan and timer modes gives this unit the ability to really narrow down what it is you want it to do, for how long and for how much energy you want to use.Given that I have lots of electronic equipment and sometimes several warm bodies occupying the room to help raise the temperature, I chose a unit that was 2000 BTU's above the popular calculated recommendation. So far it's done very well at keeping the room cool and dry when I'm in there and at least dry when I'm not.Ease of use:If you've ever used a window A/C before this will not be, in any way, foreign to you. You may want to read the manual to learn about the specifics of a few of the modes to make sure you understand their intended uses. Overall, however, a child could figure out how to use it in a manner of mere minutes. It's not complex.Ease of Installation:While the intended installation is quite easy, the end result was not at all what I expected so I had to put a couple more hours into improving things myself. If you're satisfied with the results at the end of the manufacturer's installation guide, then it won't take you long and it's pretty easy. Just be prepared to go a couple of extra steps.Output:The cold air coming out of the vents is not overly freezing or amazing, but it is enough to take a room that has about 70-80% humidity at about 80-85 degrees F and bring it down to a dry and comfortable 72F with very low humidity. After it was installed, the room got comfy really quick and I was able to entertain EIGHT clients just 2 hours later. That's NINE warm bodies pumping out heat and moisture in a 150 sq foot room! This thing kept up just fine.Overall I think this is a great little unit for the price and I'm happy with its performance. It just loses a star for the installation hurdles and the fact that the manufacturer thought that this was enough.Unfortunately shopping for window A/C's can be tough from this angle because it's not like you can go to your corner hardware store and actually see the unit installed in a window using the factory accessories. Furthermore, you can't compare this one to another one from that angle.I hope that you'll take my word for it and, at least, anticipate the need for further installation steps in order for it to be satisfactory.

Great value!
Runs quiet, and works great! Exactly what I needed to finish out the summer.

Do not purchase this product. I bought this item ...
Do not purchase this product. I bought this item based upon it being Energy Star rated. The box and the sticker on the front of the unit state that it is Energy Star. Unfortunately, when I submitted my rebate for purchasing an Energy Star product, I was turned down because they said it was not. The online specifications from the company also state that it is not. I contacted Haier directly and they confirmed it was not. When I requested a full refund of my purchase price they then came back and stated that after further investigation, it actually is Energy Star rated. No proof, just their word. This has dragged on too long, I feel I was deceived and I still have nothing to show for it.
