Best general-purpose tip
This is the best "all-around" tip for everything but small surface-mount devices. Works great for larger SMT devices and through-hole components and when you need more heat than the STTC-122 can provide, but don't have space for the STTC-117.

Good size basic wedge tip for 60/40 electrical and through-hole electronics work. Fits my MX500 handpiece. Quickly gets hot enough to melt solder, then stays _exactly_ that temperature. I'm a happy camper.

It's either broken or terrible quality
I have used Metcal for years, either this tip is broken or very bad quality, heats up then goes cold, turn off the iron, back on heats up and goes cold again.....
