Can these mats be cut to size? I need to fit it into an L-shape.

Thanks for your question. We do not recommend that you cut any of our floor mats. The Marvelux Enhanced Polymer chair mats are made using at least 75% polycarbonate which is a very tough and rigid material. Not only is it difficult to cut, but cutting the mat could affect the effectiveness of the mat.

Any modifications made to the chair mat will invalidate the product warranty and the chair mat cannot be returned. We accept no responsibility or liability for any damage caused or injury sustained.

Question 2

Is there a version of this without the spikes underneath? They are destroying my carpet and underlay.

I don’t think this company sell them but there are soft rubber mats that you can buy without the spikes.  They are normally clear like this one but soft underneath.  You would need to search for them though.

How well packaged are these panels? I’ve had a panel delivered by another supplier which arrived badly damaged.

The mat was rolled up and well packaged.  My experience was that you need to be particularly careful when releasing it to unravel as it unravels very quickly indeed.  Wear gloves and be aware.  The other thing is that it's best to let the mat rest unloaded on a flat floor in a warm room.  I did a bit of warming with the wife's hair dryer.  I think I gave it a couple of days resting, then I put it in the office and started using it in anger.  So far it's been fine, no cracking, crazing or other problems.  But as with all such things I can't comment on its long time life yet since it's only been down 6 months.

does this have a strong smell at first?

As I purchased this product in March 2021, I really cannot remember a strong smell in the room after laying this product on the floor. 
This is manufactured from a hard plastic and not the rolled up type which can smell a bit.
