Thunderbirds (Widescreen Edition)

If you loved the original marionettes, and you're still a kid at heart, you should like this movie!
Entertaining kids film. Having watched, and loved the original marionettes as a kid, I thought the Thunderbirds might have also grown up to be somewhat more of an adult action movie, it's not....but that's not a bad thing!

Not Thunderbirds "Spy Kids" Edition!
LOVE IT! I don't know what this movie gets so much hate. I do think I know why this movie did not do as well as it could have. The way this movie was advertised made it look like "Spy Kids". I know Spy Kids has its audience but the Spy "Kids" are not The Thunderbirds. Many of the adds made it look like the Thunderbirds were kids which I am happy to say they are not. In this movie Alan Tracy is the youngest and all his brothers are older. This movie had to fit in a lot into one movie and it did. The acting was great and the movie was filled with action. Also, the Thunderbird vehicles and Tacy Island looked fantastic. If people just give this movie a chance they will like it. As a Thunderbirds fan myself, I liked it and thought they did a great job setting up a second movie which could have showcased the "proper" Tracy team as we see in the end of this film. Oh well, that is not going to happen, but don't miss out on this one.

Great Live Action Adaptation
While this wasn't received well by all of the fans, I loved this respectful tribute to a childhood favorite. I always wanted to be one of the Tracy family so that I could control one of the awesome Thunderbirds. Yes, it was more a "Spy Kids" type film, but I liked the ensemble cast and Sophia Myles and Ron Cook were spot on as Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward and Aloysius Parker. Highly recommended for a fun watch.

This movie is better than what critics said.
Before I get to the point, I just want to say that I am a fan of the original series. I had originally slammed the movie because it wasn't like the original series at all. I forgot that 99% of the movies based on TV shows never follow the formula. As a result, I decided to lower my expectations and think of this movie as being introduced to Thunderbirds in a different way. It was definitely worth the matinee price, and I was brave enough to see it twice. I don't think this movie was anything like Spy Kids, like most critics have said about it. I found it very enjoyable, especially the interaction between Jeff (the dad) and Alan (the youngest son) close to the end of the movie. I know it'll never compare to the original series, but it's a great family movie for those who don't want their kids seeing the excessive violence.

F.A.B!!...
Well, I can still hear the howls of die hard Gerry Anderson fans ringing in my ears and am somewhat annoyed at Mr Anderson himself being somewhat precious about this film by not lending his name to it. However it was with some trepidation I went to see this movie at our local flea pit, as I had been a fan of the original series and can remember it's first foray on the ITV network wwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy back - *creak* - and had wondered how this was going to be butchered. Just goes to show that again, you should never judge a work by reviews and opinions before you've experienced it first. From the opening credits I was rivited and enjoyed almost every minute. Ok, so I was annoyed that FAB1 was a Ford and looked so dreadful but now realise that was beyond the film maker's control as Rolls Royce or whoever owns that name now, would not allow the brand to be used or represented, which I think is pretty mean to say the least. Other points such as the lack of rescues and maybe a little too much being put on the children's shoulders, did not mar my enjoyment. As others who have left reviews here have stated. It'll never win oscars, is corny, not thought provoking nor will ever end up in some arty farty film festival somewhere. But it is *very* enjoyable and brought back many fine memories of the original series. So it wasn't the serious action drama peice that die hard 'Fandersons' were hoping for but hell lads, it could have been a *LOT* worse. My hat goes off to Jonathan Frakes and I applaud his courage in putting the thing together. Personally I would love to see a sequel by Mr.Frakes but a large dose of anal attitude from critics and some fans alike have put an end to that possibility for now at least. So I'll do my bit and go buy the DVD instead.

Great Show
EXCELLENT SHOW! With all the R and crap movies coming out, reboots of nearly everything that was great 20 years ago; This is an amazing movie, well done, my kids loved it and it was a great family night movie. So often we have to pick and choose what we allow our kids to watch; the blood and guts that Hollywood puts out and then wonders why kids go off and kill people is now old. If you were a fan of the thunderbirds (Gumby like figures) of the 70's and 80's, this moving is for you. It brings to life the clean and wonderful action that made the thunderbirds famous!

Cheesier than Chester the Cheetah
Don't expect any sort of realism. Cute show if you keep in mind that you expect it to be cheesy and lots of eyerolling is allowed. I wouldn't rent it a 2nd time, but it satisfied a little craving for cheesy nostalgia. Extra points for being clean!

adaptation of Thunderbirds for teenagers
First yes, it's a teenager movie with teenages as heroes, so the adults team of International rescue is not the main focus of the movie. They're present of course, the whole Tracy family. And Lady Penelope and her driver Parker. The movie is really good, with intrigue starring The Hood (Ben Kingsley, now expert in playing villains with scary facial expressions) using a cunning plan to find Tracy island. The cast is more memorable for Kingsley, Bill Paxton and the always classy Sophia Myles, both pretty and amazingly talented actress but not seen enough in big movies. Some behind the scenes are present on the Blu-ray.
