What size is the threading for the mount? 17mm? Something else?

The lens is clamped to the phone. It comes in two pieces, the clamp and the lens just clamp the mount to the phone and screw the scope to the clamp. No size worry there the screw could be 7 or 17 mm it wouldn’t matter. If you are asking about the tripod mount size unless you have a tripod I am unfamiliar with, they all use the same size mounting bolt (unless you have some monstrous tripod). There are two rings included with the lens. Slide the ring over the lens (it has a set screw to secure it) and a screw hole on the bottom to screw the tripod to the mounting ring. NO WORRIES about screw size. Either metric or sae. As two mounting rings are included. Highly recommended.

Is this worth buying at all ?

For the low price, I would say so. It took some time to figure out the way to get it to attach to the phone, but the pictures are clearer and close up. I recommend a tripod for stability

Does this lens work with a samsung galaxy s8+?

It will work with an 8 plus. It has adjustable lens mount for phones that should fit fine for it. That is the phone I owned before getting my newest one. Hope that helps.

Will it work on iPhone 14 pro max?

No, this lens doesn't fit iPhone 14 series.
