BEWARE: Save time and money, don't bother here
Do not, I repeat DO NOT waste your time or money! Especially if you live in America! For one, product support will not help you. They will tell you that in order for the phone to work you need to find a cell phone company that takes 2g/3g SIM cards. THERE ARE NO COMPANIES IN AMERICA THAT OFFER IT. I did research, I called ALL the companies where I live and nothing nobody has it. I even tried my SIM that works in my phone and all it does is ask for the puk number. Called my cell company to get that, this phone won't accept the puk number so I'm told yet again to contact support for the phone. So, I do that, and they said it won't work without 2g/3g cell towers. To which my cell company obviously tried to sell me another phone cuz that kind of service doesn't even exist anymore in my country so I wasted my money and over a week of time. Yes, it took over a week to figure this all out. I did all the research, I called every company, even the local home phone company says they don't know if the phone will even work for them since it is GSM connection. So, do yourself a favor and buy a magic jack and/or a cheaper regular phone. Cuz the GSM to allow a SIM card doesn't even work. It's hard to find a home phone to take one anyway. I could've saved over a week of time and over $50 if I would've just called my cell company and got another cell phone. A home line would be cheaper in the long run, but..... Should've just gotten a cheap $20 phone and a magic jack. Sure I would've paid a lil more but, I'd have hours of time and stress that I didn't need to lose. And, I already pay for Internet so I wouldn't even have an added bill after that for a year since magic jack is VOIP. I wanted the cell SIM card in this phone though because cell signal is better then the Internet signal in my home. There's enough bad news in the world today, less stress the better. So save your time and your money and DO NOT get this is u are interested in it for the GSM. as far as how this device even works, I have no idea cuz I never got it to even connect. I didn't connect it with the local phone company only because at this point I'm 10 days into this mess and I'm done, I'll return this phone and get something that actually works! Such a hassle! So I believe the people that say the volume sucks and the instructions are bad and volume control sucks, cuz I couldn't even connect mine to find that much out. The range likely sucks and this phone is just complete trash. Seriously, not even worth the effort to hit the buy button.

works with T-Mobile in USA, not good for windowless rooms
A T-Mobile store representative clued me in on this phone. I recently migrated a small church's internet and phone service from Comcast Business because they had increased their prices so high that the value just wasn't there. I needed to port over the land line, and the sales rep suggested this with a T-Mobile line. The phone works pretty well, but it's likely that you won't be able to use the device in a windowless room with thick cinder block walls. Ring tones are a little obnoxious, but it served the congregation's needs.

Great phone, great service!
This is the perfect phone for my elderly forgetful mom! She can't carry it around and lose it, and it is very easy/familiar for her to pick up the receiver when people call. Also the menu is much easier and much more user friendly than a similar phone I had for mom in the past. I was initially concerned about being able to find a replacement battery, but the seller has offered to send me one free of charge when I made my concern known,, and Amazon has agreed to work with the seller to make it available for purchase. Am very satisfied and pleased with both the product and the seller!

Worked great for 5 months
This worked great for 5 months, but has now inexplicably died. Up to that point, it was exactly what I was looking for. I could use a cheap sim card Speedtalk Mobile service at $5 /mo. for those rare occasions when a kid with no phone at home needed to call. Now, I need to order something else.

Super easy to use.
The sound quality isn't mic-ready for radio or anything, but it works for talking to my loved ones. I can hear them clearly, and they can hear me. It's absurdly easy to use, so much so that I don't want to move the SIM card to a cell phone. It doesn't work on at&t network, so as a consumer cellular customer, I had to switch to T-Mobile to get the phone to accept my SIM. A good value for the money.

Unusable due to battery display
As one other review said, the phone was stuck on the low battery display no matter how long the battery was charged for. Battery was removed and put back and the diaply never changed, rending the phone unsable. The phone only lasted less than four months.
