Really sucks, and that is good
Pulls fume in and scatters them. Not sure how much the black foam on the front is removing. Does the job.

Great size and power
Very impressed by this little machine. Works like a charm with surprising strength, and it isn’t too loud.

Compact, Powerful, and Perfect for the Soldering Bench!
I do a lot of soldering for my radio control hobby, and if I skip a smoke absorber, I feel it the next day. Don’t breathe solder smoke, it’s nasty stuff! For years I used a Hakko absorber, but it had flaws. It only worked when I got very close, and its raised design made it clumsy on the bench. Enter the KOTTO. I bought it mainly for its compact look, it sits flat on the bench, right where I need it when soldering at a jig. Once I fired it up, I was impressed. It pulls smoke from 4–6 inches away and doesn’t need to sit directly in front of the fan. That’s a big improvement over the Hakko. It’s small, no-frills, and simply works. If you solder regularly, this is the bench buddy you want. Highly recommended.

Uncle Detective
Works great ! This filters my "solder" smoke so my jackass uncle doesn't spin out. 4 stars!

Much Better Than Expected.
I didn’t expect much but I’m impressed. Provided I’m working within about 8 to 10 inches or so, it pulls all the smoke away from me. It moves air much better than expected and does a great job of eliminating odor. A member of my family is very sensitive to smell and irritants. They were able to stand in the room without issue. Thant being said, it’s not a HEPA filter. If you decide to stir a container of flux with a hot soldering iron you’re still probably going to choke out. Quick jobs might be fine but you’re still not going to be able to work for extended periods of time in a closed room without some sort of ventilation. It’s built solid and has a bit of weight, so it doesn’t knock over easily. The housing is painted metal and contains a very capable fan. I have no complaints about the build quality or efficiency. The fan isn’t loud but it’s not quiet either. You could still easily hold a conversation with it on. Headphones seem to mask the sound quite nicely but, to me, it isn’t obnoxiously loud when considering what it is. A filter comes preinstalled with one spare in the box. The carbon filter fits snugly but replacing it is easy. I found a five pack of replacement Kotto carbon filters for $12.99 on Amazon with Prime shipping. I’m going to build a HEPA fume extractor, but this will work until then. I’ll keep it around even after because it will still be a great tool if I need something portable. The five star review isn’t because it works like an industrial fume extractor. It’s because I think it’s a great value for the money and I haven’t been able to find anything that I would consider a flaw. Thanks for your time. LLAP

It’s great!!
I was initially put off when I saw how small this actually is, but I really wanted to work on a soldering project, so decided to give it a try. So glad I did! It’s great—for two hours I soldered a stained glass project, with my nose about six inches from the solder, and never smelled a thing! And the workroom doesn’t smell either. So I’m quite impressed and see no reason for a bigger unit when it does the job so nicely! Super pleased with this purchase!

Better Soldering Fan Than I Expected
First off, I think people need to be realistic with their expectations... No small table top fan is going to compete with a professional fume hood. Nor is a cheap 'activated carbon' filter going to remove all the hazardous fumes released by melting solder and rosin. BUT - if you simply need a solution for preventing the smoke and fumes from going right up your nostrils and into your eyes, this product is a decent option. This fan is slightly smaller than I anticipated at about 5" square and 3" deep. But that actually works towards it's advantage because it doesn't take up much space and is easily maneuvered close to your workspace. It draws smoke and fumes from within about 6"-8", which is sufficient for the task. I don't know why I haven't invested in something like this 30 years ago - it's so much more pleasant soldering without choking on the smoke. I position my work, bring the fan over, solder and move the fan back. Easy peasey. I highly doubt the filter is capturing all the smoke and fumes, but really I couldn't see it blowing out the back either and my bench area did smell a lot less. Seems like it's a bit more than just blowing the smoke around. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. It's not too expensive and does the job.

Great addition to your soldering station set up
Solidly constructed and provides just enough air flow to pull the soldering fumes away without being too noisy.

I was surprised that this was not a plastic casing as everything seems to be nowadays. Very durable metal casing. The unit is of substantial weight for its size and well made. It does its job up to eight inches from soldering. The fan is strong and a bit noisy, but not bothersome. Impressive unit with industrial qualities.

Un muy buen extractor de vapores de flux. Es recomendando demasiado usar uno como este para evitar problemas de salud a la larga.

I would call this unit perfect IF it had a knob to adjust the fan speed. I am very happy with it in all aspects except I wish to turn the speed down so that I can reduce the noise. The positive thing to note here is that it works so well I could reduce the speed without suffering performance. I keep hearing people say these lower cost, small extractor have weak suction. I found that is not the case with this one. It works quite well. The filter itself is better than I expected. I thought it would be a flimsy sponge but it really is rigid, it's been coated or dipped in carbon. It seems to take the smoke out of the air rather than push it around. Is it a bit loud and because of the 3000rpm AC motor it can reverberate through the work bench. I put it on a pad to stop this. Because the suction is so good, I wish there were a fan speed control. I think this fan could run at 2000rpm or even less while providing ample coverage in my working area. This would reduce the noise. If you have $45 to spend and you don't already have a fume extractor, get this! It works well. The build quality is good. It feels good. It's weighted, it stays in place. The wiring looks safe and professional. It's a great unit. I was using a small desk fan to blow the fumes away from my face, this having a carbon filter that actually seems to work is a huge upgrade. It also takes up very little space on the work bench. Has a nice little handle to move it around. Lastly this is an AC fan and I think a DC fan would be much more power efficient. But a DC fan would require a power supply which could malfunction increasing the maintenance headaches. It seems like these AC fans are easy to come by so I guess that's a benefit. I still would prefer it be a DC fan.
