Theories of Childhood, Second Edition: An Introduction to Dewey, Montessori, Erikson, Piaget & Vygotsky Review: Thorough and Informative Introduction to Theories - This text has a thorough introduction to each of the theorists listed. It tells you a bit about each theorist as a person, the fundamentals of their theories, and gives examples of what application looks like. Each chapter has a few questions and discussion points at the end as well as recommendations for further reading. Emphasis on early childhood, most chapters only going from birth to ages 5-7. Perfect for parents, early childhood educators, and daycare providers. Review: Easy Read - I loved this book. It was written in the way that actually helped you understand the different theorist and what that looks like in a classroom. I often purchase these books and they are written with language from many years ago which for some people, like myself, can be hard to understand. It’s an affordable book all college students pursuing a degree in education should have.

Quick Summaries
This book is written to give a very brief overview of the theories in education. It is a great starting point for students of education or as a review for veteran teachers who might want a refresher. Very readable without losing the academic integrity.

Short, sweet, and to the point...just the way I like it!
This book is a great intro to understanding the more popular theories on child development. It's well written, insightful, offers great examples of the theories at work from real life experiences, and connects the various theories where applicable. It was a great read and very useful.

Excellent--easy to understand, highlight and remember for us as teachers to explain our pedagogy. Why are we giving very young students real tools? Because of the work of Montessori! Dewey understood the importance of learning by doing 100 years ago. "Theories" also challenges the reader to go deeper and reflect on how their practice can be more meaningful and authentic. If you are an educator, do not think twice, you need to read this.

Concise overview
Concise overview of theorists which supplemented a college text on Teaching Methodology required reading in a k-12 teacher education course. While the text was not intended to be an indepth review of the theorists and their work, it provided my students with ancillary material, and a quick read from which they could then choose to engage in further research.

Attainable
Mooney does a great job of making the theories of the psychologists attainable. They are made attainable in understanding and application. She also does not use excessive words to do so. I highly recommend this book to all early childhood educators that desire to see children grow and love life while doing so.

LOVE this book. It's a good primer on 5 of the foundational early childhood theorists and it's a very easy and quick read. I'd love if they'd come out with another one covering Gerber, Malaguzzi, Bandura, and Bronfenbrenner in the same format.

A life saver! I am doing a paper on psychology and this book is amazing! My English is not the best but this book is so well written that even a child could learn about Piaget and Erickson. The writer has explained in a simple manner things that at the Uni I couldn't understand.
