Looking Forward to the Next in the Series
I am still working on the first in the series, Guitar for Dummies, and it is absolutely fantastic. I have looked into this next offering in the series, Guitar Rhythms and Techniques for Dummies, and I have to say that I am really looking forward to getting into it deeper. these books are really detailed, and complete. The titles are really quite the misnomer because as thorough as they are and as complex as the subject matter is these books are definitely not for dummies. That being said, even the most complicated of the subjects in these books is explained as completely as you could ask for and the result is a beautiful explanation of things about guitars that you really never considered. I have greatly enjoyed all of the details, and the insights that these books have offered. Now, I need to stop writing, and go and practice, Cheers!

Has a lot of information, maybe too much
Desi Serna is an excellent teacher and has written other guitar books which are pretty good. His web site is mostly designed to seel high priced video lessons. As for this book, it has many, many strum patterns which can take a long time to master, if ever, unless you have the time to devote to them. The true benefit of the book is learning timing in your playing using ties, rests, etc. That alone makes the book worth purchasing and using.

Answers Every Question You Have As a New Guitarists
Serna has written four books and they are all great: Fretboard Theory I, Fretboard Theory II, Guitar Theory for Dummies and this book Guitar Rhythm & Techniques for Dummies. I picked up playing guitar at 37 with absolutely no musical experience. His books are the cornerstone on which I have based my self taught education of music theory and guitar. Because of his books, I feel that I am a more rounded guitar player with the full understanding of what I am doing theoretically and in practice.I highly recommend Desi Serna's books as well as his videos that correspond to each book.

Rhythm Guitar Study Guide
I would recommend this study guide to anyone interested in playing guitar. It is specifically written for Advanced Novice through Intermediate players. You will need to have a basic understanding and basic ability to play in order to properly use this guide. If you are a full-on beginner, then start with Guitar For Dummies, and then get this book. This study guide covers everything you need to become a well informed and proficient rhythm player. I took one star off for not having an accompanying CD with practice and jam tracks.
