Excellent Tool with Minor Quirks
What Works Well Non‑contact RPM measurement: Being able to measure speeds without touching the shaft is super convenient, especially for delicate or high-speed parts. Counter mode: The ability to count revolutions up to 99,999 is a nice extra — handy in certain tests or calibration jobs. Display & usability: The 5‑digit backlit LCD is clear and easy to read, even in lower light. Durability: The rugged double‑molded housing gives me confidence to carry it into the field (not just the bench). Portable: Lightweight, compact, and comes with the reflective tape and battery — you can use it right out of the box. 👎 What Could Be Better Reflective tape dependency: You need to use reflective tape for accurate reads. If the surface or part doesn’t take the tape well (curved or uneven), results can be inconsistent. Max RPM limit: For extremely high-speed applications, it sometimes struggles (or becomes less accurate) — it’s not in the “laboratory high‐end” league. Battery life / power: The 9V battery runs out faster than I would like when used often. A more efficient power option or indicator would be nice. Button ergonomics: The buttons are a bit small and stiff; wearing gloves means it can be fiddly to operate.

One of the best handheld laser tachometers
It reads through fan grills. It reads super high speed jet engine style fans, it reads with reflective tape, it reads white paint, it even reads with correction tape or fluid on one blade. Simple and easy to use. One of my favorite tools for the thermal engineering lab.

Functions as advertised, perhaps not too rugged
This unit performs as advertised. I have used it on a number projects, measuring fan speed on furnaces. It meets my needs perfectly but might not be rugged enough for daily field use. The plastic case seems a little thin and would probably not withstand a drop from any height. Would be better if the case were a softer, impact absorbing material. Having said that, it does the job.

Great product!
This tool works great. It's priced right, and does its job well. I wish the button was recessed a little so it doesn't accidently turn on while in the tool bag. But, nonetheless, it works well and the battery lasts a long time. FYI: Dont waste your money on that stupid tach tape, just buy a roll of aluminum duct tape and you'll have a lifetime supply that does the job just as well.

Works as advertized.
Works beautifully even in daylight. I used white reflector tape designed to make signs visible at night and got perfect readings. I compared the values to another tachometer and found that they matched. Accurate and simple to use.

Digital RPM measurements for router bits @12- 18K rpm.
Delivered as expected. Item as received, described as advertised. Was ordered to measure RPM of Router bits. Seems to have an unstable rpm even with reflective tape on the bit which is 3/4” diameter. Measurement taken at 50mm. Will test on a different bit which is ~ 1.5” diameter. Could be operator error too. Jury still out on accuracy for Extech mini laser tachometer. Easy to use. Device well made.
