How is this different from the Omron Gold ?

I have 2 silvers, they are for 1 person, gold gives you two which can be handy. I would use #1 for when I'm seated properly rested 2 minutes & calm; #2 I would use when I'm not ready, feel sick or some other anomaly. That way I would have #1 tracking mormal BP, # 2 for odd situations. That said both read 10-15 points low when my BP is 105 to120, the higher my real BP the greater the gap. I have correlated these so many times at the docs office I can deduce my actual pressure, and I don't get random results, it's very predictable. The 2 machines are about 5 to 7 points different consistently. Not optimal but I've tried many machines and the newer ones just aren't as accurate as the old ones I've & this works for me!

No, but you can feel the release of pressure when it's finished and ready to read.

I know someone else asked this, but can this be used without a smartphone?? My grandmother wants something to monitor her bp throughout the day.

I didn’t even know you could use a cell phone.. so No you do not need to use cell phone. It worked fine. Although, I do work for a Cardiologist and he prefers the upper arm BP monitor. He feels it’s more accurate. I bought the Omron upper arm monitor and have not been disappointed.
