Artisan Dog Food, Grain Free and Freeze-Dried - Artisan Venison, 10Lb Bag

Human grade food. No chicken meal means no baby chicks were ground alive to produce this dog food. No nasty smell like canned dog food - it smells like food you would put on your table for your family. It is lightweight because the water has been removed. That's important to me because I sm disabled and heavy lifting is a problem. Also it is shelf stable so having a few bags on hand as part of your long term storage and emergency preparedness is a good idea - just remember you need to up your water requirements too. My dogs love it. My littlest dog literally jumps for joy at feeding time. :). This food is sort of expensive. I have 3 dogs and I estimate I will need 3 bags per month if I feed this exclusively. But 2 of my dogs are pretty big girls, 60 lbs. and I believe I am spending about what it was costing me for high quality dry food (Orijen). Cheap food will increase vet costs over time so I suspect it all evens out. If you can afford this food try it. Even as a special meal once a week or adding a little to your dry food, your dogs will love you for it. The other option is to cook from scratch for your dog, cause that's what this company is doing.

I have been looking for a very long time for a dog food that does not flare up my dog's allergies. I can't afford to do the raw diet nor can I put all the time in the preparation, so I gave this food a try after researching the web. I have not seen him lick his paws and his ears are not red as he is notorious for getting ear infections. My dog loves this food and dances foolishly for it while it is absorbing the water. He can hardly wait the recommended 3-5 minutes. I am very picky and read every ingredient in every dog food out there. The ingredients in this food are very healthy and nutritious. I have to say, I did try the Grandma Lucy's Pure Performance (wonderful ingredients by the way), but my dog's allergies flared up (probably from the chickpeas). After switching back to the Artisan, all is calm again. Very pleased and will be a continued customer of Grandma Lucy's Artisan food products. Thank you Grandma Lucy!

My two dogs love this brand of food. Easy for them to digest since they are older.love the single proteins since they have chicken and beef allergies.

I'm giving this a 4 instead of 5 because while it is good smelling and apparently tasty - the consistency is a lot like paper-mâché or thick oatmeal. One golden retriever and one Newfie gave it a thumbs up, and the other golden didn't seem to care for the texture since she kept getting a mouthful and then letting it fall back out of her mouth. I believe this would be a better consistency if it was small chunks instead of mostly flakes.

Great food with great ingredients, this is one of the foods I switch between. My dog enjoys it and I like the variety of proteins offered. (I think it's a good idea to switch it up unless your dog has allergies or other concerns.) This food actually has a slightly higher rating on dogfoodadvisor than Honest Kitchen, though both are excellent and I use both. Like all foods of this type it's not cheap but it is comparable to a top quality kibble, and spending money on good nutrition is preferable to spending money at the vet dealing with illnesses that choosing inferior foid can cause.

I had big hopes for this food. My dog has severe food allergies, So I have been looking for food with novel protein; that doesn't require the purchase of a hunting rifle and license. Price is a big issue also being on a strict budget. There are no shortage of " novel protein “ dog foods, but this one hit the mark on price, and I thought taste also. She had been eating "taste of the wild" with venison until they changed the ingredients and it made her sick! (WTH is chicken doing in the venison/bison kibble)? It arrived as expected and I looked at the food in the bag; it seemed to be mostly white from the potatoes (2nd ingredient) and oats (3rd). I mixed up a serving; it did smell good, but the texture was that of minute potato buds. To my eyes there was very little venison detected, and the fruit and vegetables listed on the ingredients appeared missing from the serving I made. I could also smell the dehydrated potatoes stronger than the meat smelled. Instead of my dog leaping about me as I made it (this was what I pictured when I placed the order) she laid on the floor uninterested. When I placed it down she didn't even get up to investigate, so I put some on my finger and held it to her muzzle. Nothing!!! She did sniff it for a second and then turned face away. This prompted me to do something I didn't want to do, I put the food I had been tempting my dog with in my mouth to try it myself. It didn't taste good! Disclaimer: I am not a dog food tasting specialist, I don't know what it "should" taste like, but I always say "I wouldn't feed anything to my pets that I wouldn't eat". And I wouldn't eat this. I can't put into words what it tastes like because I didn't really pick out a flavor, it was mostly texture of clumpy potato buds. Also I don't like the taste of venison so that I'm sure impacts my experience. I thought it said it was made with all human grade ingredients, but when I read the bag it didn't say that anywhere; although it kind of implies it with the wording. Anyways, back to the drawing board for me. I'm thinking about going hunting for wabbits this weekend.

I highly recommend this product. I have 2 small dogs; dachshund @ 14# and a Jack Russel @ 18#. Both of them love it, even tho' the dachshund is a bit pickier. I think the super high quality ingredients are very important and am willing to spend more money for the health of my animals. One note: It does take an extra minute to prepare; allowing the freeze-dried food to reconstitute. But again ... it is important to take good care of our pets.

If u are looking to prolong your dogs life and longevity, this food is where its at. No byproducts. Quality human grade ingredients only.

Great food, dog loves it. Beware of shipping, current order is taking 18 days although in stock. Previously has shipped in a timely fashion. Who orders 1 month of dog food 18 days in advance?

I ordered this smaller, venison package because they're out of the larger, meat-free one at this time. I feed my dogs raw frozen meat, so don't really need the extra meat in this. That being said, I'm sure it will be good!

Easy to mix with water. Dogs love it.
