I bought this to put in a winter beater, because the similar JVC receiver I bought a few years ago and put in another vehicle apparently is a discontinued model. I wanted one with customizable color and the USB port to play music from a thumb drive. I thought I'd try the Pioneer instead and see if it was any better. The two units are probably a toss-up as far as what controls are easiest to use. The display on this one is much brighter. The audio quality is better. Some of the controls I don't like as well. I haven't figured out if there's a pause yet, for instance. Other controls, the color change particularly, are easier to find and use, and the demo mode is easy to get out of. It does not show song title then go back to the clock on each new track like the JVC does. But it works well and likely will outlive the vehicle it's installed in. With a kit the install was super simple, about 20 minutes if that, including cutting the stock harness - it's a beater and no one's going to put a factory unit back in there. If the time comes I can just snip it back out. What will be interesting to see is how well the random feature works on this one. With a thumb drive containing music in folders mostly by artist, the JVC seems to fall in a rut and make the same "random" selections repeatedly - to the point that in two trips two weeks apart, approaching the same highway interchange, on the second trip I skipped past about five of seven songs because it had played all of them, in about the same order, as I came to the same location, on the first trip. This unit, I have not driven enough places with it installed to compare; although skipping ahead to see where it would go next it seemed to do a good job of selecting songs and it's only repeated one (out of around 1500) since then. I also structured the thumb drive differently - fewer folders and artists mixed through several of them.

No substitute for a Pioneer car stereo. Period.
I've tried a Kenwood, Pyle (which was supposed to be cheap) and a JVC and I can say that nothing compares sound or usability wise to a pioneer.I have an 05 subaru wrx with stock speakers and with the pioneer you'd swear I installed brand new ones with a subwoofer. Sound is clear across the whole spectrum with zero distortion. On all 3 of the other brand car stereos, there was just really boxy tone I couldn't eq right. On the Pyle distortion was prevent even at medium volumes when low frequency bass kicked in.Lastly, I love using USB drives to carry along lots of music and pioneer seems to be the ONLY car stereo manufacturer to recognize parent/child directories without special formatting or software.I now own 2 pioneer units for 2 different cars. I'll never buy another brand again.

Loved it so much in my Jeep I bought another one for my travel van !
I really love this radio in my Jeep Wrangler. Love the search by folders features and being able to use a jump drive, iPod or iPhone with it and the audio and illumination setting. This receiver really helped the bass from the Pioneer speakers I bought. The speakers were "flat" using the OEM radio but this receiver made them sound real nice. I tried the Mixtrax feature but didn't really care for it but it wasn't a consideration as to why I bought this receiver. I liked this receiver so much that I bought a second one and installed it in my Road Trek travel van.

Great options for basic stereo
Really good stereo for the price. We had purchased another model (DEH-150MP) but the thing was so basic, and had no good features, so we my sister (who I purchased it for) wanted me to find one with multiple color options so I found this one. This is a really good single din stereo and has a lot of nice features to it, including the ability to change a handful of colors and also a color fading mode which alternates all of them in a fade effect that looks really nice!

Instructions don't give accurate details on how to make adjustments to the settings. You pretty much have to figure it out by trial and error. Stereo works fine, easy install.

You get what you pay for, i like it, it works well for me.This is my second one i have installed in cars, it was defective (subwoofer/mixtrack issues), swapping it out for a new one.Hopefully it works this time around, overall its very easy to use.
