Can you connect this to a garden hose for water supply?

You can but you will have to make a manifold since the unit comes with separate hot / cold incoming connections.It is a nice unit however be prepared for the unit to be damaged during shipping. Honest, it took 4 shipments to get it here undamaged. The curve section at the top is not too sturdy and packing at this area is not good. That said once we got it undamaged it works good. I would buy it again.

Does this just drain onto the ground or can it be into a drain pipe?

It drains on the ground. I placed over grass and have a rock bed directly underneath the shower to help with drainage.

Is this freestanding or does it need to be attached to the wall?

Free standing but I returned mine because it was really damaged upon delivery.
