Q: Can you take the grips off at the bottom so to hold 20 pieces of paper with the grip so I can easily take the sheet off

The grips and clips can be moved to attach more sheets and hold in place. These are made of hard plastic whilst the A4 resting piece is metal.

Q: Does this really hold a book in place? Only one review mentions this but I wonder if the clips are strong enough to do this? Thanks for any answers

I have used one of my heaviest books a fairly large Collins Spanish/English Dictionary and it does hold a heavy book in place. It holds small paperbacks, too. However, the tabs that hold the article in place are made of plastic, so l would suggest using it gently, when placing and removing a heavy book on the stand. For me it has been very useful when l am in the middle of writing/adjusting written pieces. I am very happy with it.
