We bought this metal detector as a birthday gift for our 10 year old grandson. We were going on a family trip to Port Clinton on Lake Erie and would be staying right on the beach. When the kids would tire of playing in the water, they would take the metal detector up and down the beach looking for buried treasure. It is now one year later and we went back to the same hotel and the kids still love the metal detector! So far they found a quarter, many rusty nails, aluminum pull-off drink tabs and even a Craftsman ratchet. They don’t seem to mind that they haven’t found a buried treasure! It is amazing to watch people gather around them while they are searching the beach with their parents. The detector is plastic, but is holding up well and is a good value for the money. It seems very accurate and doesn’t seem to use up the battery too quickly.

This detector works well. We found buried cans, nails, and other pieces of metal in our back yard. Some were about 5 inches underground and had clearly been there for years. We liked that this comes with a case and with a trowel and rake for digging. It is easy to use and doesn't need tuning. A great choice in metal detectors for children.

UPDATE: I contacted the seller and explained what had happened. They said the detector should not have failed as it was waterproof and said they would send me a replacement. I had to contact them a second time after not receiving the replacement within a month. I received the replacement today and the seller was apologetic about the delay and they were willing to help with any issues. The detector works well and the grandkids were thrilled with it. I have changed my rating to 4 stars. Previous review. This item was defective and stopped working after the first use at the beach. I contacted the amazon associate twice and they connected me with the manufacturer on the line. The manufacturer promised to send a replacement both times, but nothing was ever sent. Now, Amazon is saying they are not responsible, even though this item was "fulfilled by amazon". I will try again with another associated and have also contacted the manufacturer again. This item failed with the first use and now no one is standing behind this product.

Purchased 2 of these for my grandsons 6 and 9 years. Prior to bringing the detectors out - my husband hide pirate treasure of metal coins in our sandy front yard - perfect for buried pirate treasure... The boys have been THRILLED with these. They come with a VERY hand storage/carrying bag - a hand shovel and a very handy claw for digging. I did separately purchased a sieve like scoop - which is very handy to sort through dug up sand and a hand held wand for checking spoils. Both have proven to be worthy extra purchases. In my opinion the boys have really gotten our money's worth out these already - hopefully they will last a while. I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. These are great fun and have held their attention for hours at a time. Of course the buried "treasure" didn't hurt. Lots of safe excitement at home in the time of the virus when staying at home and having fun is sometimes hard. Mostly they are yellow and black plastic. And are pretty darn accurate. Overall - in use and price - I am pleased.

In these coronavirus times, I needed something my 5-year old daughter and I could do together. I figured treasure hunting would be a great thing we could do together. This is light, easy to use for a 5 year old, non complicated, works well, good battery life. The thing I didnt expect, is my daughter doesnt look at screws, nails, soda caps, and misc metal garbage as treasure. So the expectations that arrived with this toy have not been met, as we did not find an alien spacecraft, buried gold coins, or other exciting metal objects yet. But there is always hope.

I ordered the metal detector for my grandson. Was very disappointed in the quality. Cheap plastic.

This was a birthday gift for my grandson. I got the idea after reading an article about a seven year old boy finding a rock with a metal detector that was possibly a piece from a meteor. He was so excited and couldn’t wait for everyone to leave so that he could try it out. We were impressed with how light it was. His dad liked that it came with its own bag for storage. I passed on the tip that someone else had posted about secretly hiding coins in advance for him to find. I’m very happy with my purchase.
