Probably 20 to 35 knives per shelf if knives are small or pocket knives. Shelves are not deep enough for large hunting knives. Depth is 3/4 inch.

Top drawer measures 1" (inch) deep, drawers 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 measure 1 & 3/8" (inch) deep and bottom drawer measures 1 & 3/4" (inch) deep. These measurements include the space between the drawers.

What are the dimensions of the top of the case?

Back to front is 15.5” and width is 9.5” and the glass is 5” and 7/8 wide and 13” front to back. It gets deeper as it goes down and the bottom measures 20”. Hope that helps.
