I have charged it but it only seems to work plugged in? How do I make sure I’m charging correctly?

It’s broken. I had the same problem with the first one I got. Return it and get another one. The second one works perfectly and we’ve had no issues with it.

Same button does both. Press once for flashlight, press and hold to turn on/cycle through nightlight colors.
