101 Story Starters for Kids: One-Page Prompts to Kick Your Imagination into High Gear

As a 4th grade teacher it can be hard to challenge fast finishers with engaging work. I purchased these story starters as a way to improve writing skills in a fun and creative way. The students love picking different starters and sharing their finished stories with friends and family.

My son, a budding writer, enjoys this book a lot! It's perfect for homeschooling. We use this once a week with my 3rd grader, and it's his favorite writing activity, since it allows his imagination to flow freely and create the most amazing stories. I will be for sure keeping this book as a keepsake to read his stories many years from now.

Lots of choices

My 8 year old loves to write from realistic to historical fictions, but he got stock with the starters. Believe me, I have searched for a book like this forever - I bought several. This book was the magic he needed. The author was fantastic in just getting on to the points! Loads of introductions for kids to build main ideas around . Children need starters, and their imagination takes over. I will recommend this book to teachers, parents, who want their kids to write seamlessly. Thank you Dena.

I am giving this book five stars because it has great prompts for reluctant writers. My seven year old found it on the shelf (I originally bought it for my older daughter) and wrote a great story. I will say that a few of the prompts mention bras. Nothing super weird, but my kids were confused. 😆

With the quarantine, my boys are bored and I need to keep their little brain active. Each page has a starter story you can go along with or choose to write a different story. My son started with the provided story at first, but now loves his writing assignments getting real creative, giving him a passion for writing. This was a great idea, best purchase ever, and I highly recommend this.

Good idea in theory but if you don’t want your child writing horror stories then find another publisher. I was disappointed in this because I don’t even read or watch horror books and movies so I don’t want my children to either. I really wished the table of contents were avail in the look inside section but they are not...so here they are.

My 10-year-old son really loves this. He used to hate writing. He seems to really enjoy these and they have all different topics, not just scary stories.

I would not say that this book promotes creative writing. It’s more like trying to find an alibi for the crime that you definitely did, bizarre scenario’s and illogical starting point. Definitely not for young kids, I’d say starting age 13.

Just a bunch of blank pages with a 'story starter' on the top. Definitely not worth the asking price.
