Beautiful and detailed guide for tarot beginners
I'm new to reading tarot cards and have signed up for a class next month, but I was eager to start learning now. I'll be honest...I judged this book by its cover! I was drawn to the bold colors and pictures of the cards on front. But inside is even better! The author gives some history on tarot up to the current deck that most people are familiar with - the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. The book features sections for the major and minor arcana cards. Each individual card gets its own section with detailed descriptions of each card's image, meanings, and how to interpret them during a reading. Sample spreads are provided throughout the book, from simple to more complex. I've learned so much already, and just love looking at this beautiful, colorful book. I purchased a similar book around the same time (which I also love) but if you can only buy one, I recommend this one!

This book is very enlightening and easy to understand
I am a beginner to reading tarot cards. This book is very enlightening and easy to understand, and is welcoming for a newbie such as myself. In the beginning of the book Liz Dean explains several very simple ways to view the cards. She tells you how you can interpret a card just by its color, or by its number or suit. It gives brief summaries of the meanings of the cards as a quick reference, but then it has entire pages dedicated to each card, and even includes the reversed meanings. The descriptions go super in depth in an easy to understand way and they cover a wide variety of contexts and situations. Just by reading about a card, you will find yourself with a far better understanding of it. There's a ton of information presented in a very concise manner - you will learn a lot but it won't feel boring or tedious. The beginning of the book also includes some very fascinating history about tarot. There are also a wide variety of spreads to try - she demonstrates one-card, three-card, and weekly and monthly readings among many others. Each card of the major arcana also has its own spread that you can try.I'm very glad that I bought this book - I've still got a long way to go before I've mastered tarot, but this book has made the task feel a whole lot less intimidating. The colorful illustrations and the organization of each section make it a fun and engaging read.Worth noting is that this book uses the Universal Waite tarot - a variation of the Rider Waite Smith deck. So, I recommend having a variation of that deck if you are using this book to study, because it will make things a lot easier to follow.

My favourite book on the subject
I have been learning Tarot reading for a few years now and read many books on the subject. I have to say this is my favourite book, it gives possible options in order to understand every card and usually it’s very accurate . The book is very informative and teaches everything you need to know in order to start reading the cards. I started learning Tarot with this book and I still turn to it when I do my readings.

For Research Project, One Of The Best
I got this with a few others for a research project and found this to be one of the better volumes on the subject. It's well-written and covers all the basics while also diving deeper than most beginner texts, and I'm finding it very useful. We had one fail to deliver, bought a replacement and had it damaged, bought another and it had the same damage, so I do think that this is best grabbed in a bookstore if you can find it. I got a perfect copy in the local store and I'm loving it. This one's a keeper.

Exceeds all expectations!
I read the great reviews on this and being an intermediate tarot card reader I thought I couldn't learn much from one MORE tarot book but I was wrong.First of all it's a larger book with great color pictures which I assumed was more for aesthetic than function. However, I got the Oliver Hibert tarot deck which is a psychadelic play on the standard Rider Waite deck. Basically, it's a lot of detail on somewhat small cards & I can't always make out the minute details. The enlarged photos of each card in this book help me to see what all of the symbols on my cards are and what they mean. Now I feel like I can truly get in touch with this gorgeous artsy tarot deck of mine! The explanations of the cards are succinct & to the point, very nice for a busy person like me who doesn't have abundant amounts of free time for reading. Where this book is lacking in quantity of data it more than makes up for in quality of data. Also, she gives a specific tarot spread suggestion for each major arcana card. In other words use that specific card to be your guide through a spread with the energy of that card. I've never heard of this before. I get certain major arcana cards over & over in my spreads like The Hermit. Now, I can use this book to get down to what The Hermit is more specifically trying to communicate. This would be an awesome beginner's tarot book & I wish I had started with this one. I have The Wild Unknown tarot deck with accompanying book which has really enriched my readings & I highly recommend them. However, that deck has no reversed meanings & I'd like to be more savvy with reading different decks. This book is just the thing I need for the next leg of my tarot journey!
