how long are the brushes?

They're the regular normal size brushes. I don't know the exact length. I have small hand and fat fingers and I use them greatly

They are definitely synthetic. It's a decent set of brushes (I love the eyeshadow brushes) but after extended use the powder and bronzer brush tend to shed a lot. Pretty good for synthetic, though.

Are they cruelty free?

yes, they are. From their website: We do NOT test on animals or endorse such practices. Our products do not contain animal derived ingredients. Beeswax has been replaced by synthetic beeswax and lanolin has been replaced by Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladinpale-2.
