Obviously, it doesn't look like a real flame, but the secondary effects (reflections on walls & ceiling) it does. Also, if viewed through a patterned or frosted glass it does resemble a flame quite well. I'm more than happy with them and although it isn't bright enough to comfortably read by, the steady light mode is more than enough to do work with in the dark without destroying your night vision totally.

Very nice flicker flame effect with 3 different modes and magnetic bottom. I currently have mine inverted under my loft bed over my couch and laptop. Battery lasts a long time it seems. Had it running all last night for at least 8 straight hours and have had it running today for 2 hours. Still haven't charged it since.Edit- battery died and it absolutely will not charge at all. Never dropped or anything. Very unhappy that it's already not working
