Could posts be slipped over 4x4 instead of using stakes? Thanks

We recommend using the stakes. Any other alterations may void the warranty.

is this plastic or composite? In other words does it look like shiny plastic or like a wood panel?

PVC. "shiny" as you call it. Like a vinyl fence. I really don't think the neighbors will care.
