Great fun!! and motivational!! CAN be educational if you want....
I am a tutor for students in different subjects. I have students from elementary school up through high school and all different ability levels including special needs kids. It can be great drudgery trying to drill and practice certain material, so I often try to include short little games to make "their turn" be something they WANT (not try to avoid!!) This is one of those games.I usually make them recite whatever it is they need (or answer a question) and they get a turn to roll the dice. I REALLY like this dice tray for games like this so the dice don't go skating across the table or onto the floor. After they answer their question (could be history or math or whatever) they get 3 rolls. Of course you can play Yahtzee with the traditional rolls of "small straight" "full house" etc., but I found it was confusing for some of the younger kids to keep track of that. And those scoresheets they give you are confusing to a child! So!! I made my own scoresheets!!!! (I have attached photos of them with the product images.) there are 2. And Easy one, and a Harder one. It makes it MUCH easier to use the big sheets than trying to explain it all.The EASY one (see my photo above)- just has the numbered items. No straights or full houses or chance or anything. Numbers and Yahtzee...that's it. They simply choose the dice they have the most of, and record that on the score sheet. It is BIG and simple to tell which picture you still need to "get" and which are done. And the math/multiplying can be good practice. I let the really little kids use a calculator. The HARDER one (see my photo above)- is the same as the easy one, but with a "straight" and a "full house" added. That's it. I even filled out part of one of the scoresheets so you can see how the kids do it.The dice are VERY motivating. ALL of my kids know these icons. They really like it. We play it a LOT and some of the paint does want to chip slightly. I sprayed mine with clear spray paint to keep that from getting worse, even nail polish would probably work, too. It is one of my most popular games. The last few weeks of the term are "kid's choice" weeks where they get to pick the game they like the most to play. This is ALWAYS chosen. My top 3 picks are:1. Pass the Pigs2. Zombie Dice3. Yahtzee Super MarioIt is just a fun motivator, but YOU have to also help with the learning. Adding other subjects, helping with the multiplication, understanding the chances of getting a "yahtzee" on your last roll, seeing that 2 "ones" are probably "better" than 2 "sixes", etc....there is more learning going on than you think!! ASK them what they think of taking of "zero" in the 2s section to not "waste" their "six". It is a good foundation for understanding value of numbers. Just a great help in making learning much more fun!!!

great fun for family
I bought this for my 6 year old for Christmas. We love playing games as a family and he is a huge super mario fan. He had got Mario memory game last year and I thought this would be just as much fun for him. It is great. We have played as a family a few times and we all love it. It plays just like original yahtzee but the pieces are just mario themed. Kids ages, 6, 9 and 11 and adults all enjoyed playing. Fun design for a family of video game enthusiasts. My 6 year old caught on quick and did very well. I helped only with him keeping score but he understood how to play the game.

Super cool version of a classic game!
Wonderful for Mario lovers. Works exactly like regular Yahtzee and comes in a dice box that's perfect for taking to other people's houses. I read reviews before I bought this, and before we played we coated the dice with a layer of clear nail polish to avoid chipping away the image. We have had 0 problems! There were also a few reviews about the the score cards being too small. I completely disagree. They aren't big, but they're definitely big enough to enjoy playing on. Only if you have bad vision for seeing things up close, do I believe this would be an issue. Nobody I have played with has complained. Very cute game. Would recommend

A great addition to our Mario collection
I had read some reviews on this product before I purchased it so the first thing I did was spray a gloss varnish over the dice several times to protect the print. I reckon this is a must to ensure the durability of the dice. Overall, we really enjoy playing this game and it is an interesting take on traditional yahtzee. My 5 year old is now picking up the strategy of the game too. I think I might line the ? cube with some foam though as it is very noisy with the dice shaking around inside. It's a great little game for the price.

Unique item
I gave this a 5 star because of its uniqueness. I bought this item as a Christmas gift for my oldest son who collects anything dealing with Super Mario Brothers. He loved this, it was a huge success. I don't think he will even open it. The details on this item is amazing. I love that Amazon finds me the most hard to find items that makes my family happy and from some of the best sellers. This item arrive ahead of the time it was suppose to, in perfect shape.

Mario Bros. theme more trouble than it's worth
Like Yahtzee? Yes.Like Mario Bros.? Yes.Like Mario Bros. theme being an added middleman in the simple game of Yahtzee? NOOOOO!!!Instead of the game of Yahtzee being Mario-ized what they did is convert the dice from numbers to Mario Bros. symbols just so you can convert them back into numbers on the score sheet. So you're basically adding an extra unneeded step to writing down rolls, all while getting to look at the [albeit well done] theme.Coin - 1, Super Mushroom = 2, Fire Flower = 3, Yoshi Egg = 4, Star = 5 and Green Shell = 6The other bad thing is the score sheet seems smaller than usual. They did this to make it fit in the storage box.Having said all that there are a number of things they got right.First, the storage box that holds everything while not playing is a "?" box with a lid. While you're playing, that "?" storage box doubles as a dice shaker for your rolls. That's really awesome.Secondly everything Mario related in this game is well done. Prints are great, layout is great... If you're a fan of Mario Bros. you'll enjoy what they did.Overall this is a poor version of Yahtzee for the sake of playing Yahtzee but the themed storage box looks great on the shelf and is useful in game. And where else can you get five Mario Bros. symbol dice? If you like Yahtzee and Mario Bros. memorabilia just swap out the Mario Bros. symbol dice with regular dice and use the themed ones for something else. It'll make playing Yahtzee much easier and playing some other dice game with Mario dice more fun.Great idea, poor execution.
