Buy ASCENDAS Folk Acoustic Guitar PICKUP, A-201 Guitar Equalizer Piezo Pickup Amplifier Tuner with 6.35mm output jack (Without microphone): Pickups & Pickup Covers - desertcart.com โ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases Review: Nice acoustic guitar preamp with sound hole volume and microphone control for an old Martin UPDATED! - UPDATED 11/10/25 Iโve purchased a second pickup set and have it installed on another Martin, itโs an 000-28 and the install was just a bit easier because itโs a little bigger and I can reach inside much easier than the 0-15. Sounds very good and I seem to have plenty of upper frequencies with larger top that is spruce rather than mahogany. Both sound very good in their own aspect. Granted thereโs no tone control so set your amp accordingly and enjoy it. Adding the second pickup/preamp set confirms this unit is worth the cost and time to install it. I spent less than an hour installing each one with no problems or surprised. Iโll probably add another one to my 12 string and maybe my Hummingbird. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW Iโve been restoring a very old prewar Martin guitar. I decided to go ahead and install an acoustic pickup system that is simple but adequate for my needs. This Ascendas Folk Guitar.pickup system and installation was a breeze. It only needed to use the strap pin to exit the guitar. I already had a hole for the strap pin, it needed enlarging enough to accommodate the preamp/strap pin. Everything else had adhesive Velcro to secure the 9v battery enclosure against the neck block. Also included two sided tape to mount the volume and mic control knobs and the microphone mounts under the top near the bridge. There is an under saddle piezo pickup. Itโs the flexible type of piezo that. Is super thin and is much easier to mount than the hard bar type under saddle pickups. I really like this type of pickup as you rarely have to do any bridge shimming or reducing the actual saddle to accommodate the normal hard bar piezo that almost always require removing a 1/16โ or more of the existing bridge saddle. The unit is easy for anyone to install and the best part is it doesnโt sound bad at all. I installed mine on an 85 year old Martin 0-15 all Honduran mahogany acoustic guitar. The project didnโt take more than an hour. I run it through a Fender Acoustasonic amp and I couldnโt be happier at the tone. Iโm probably going to to order at least two more for some of my other acoustic guitars that I want to amplify. You could do a lot worse for way more money if you donโt care about your bang for your bucks! Review: It sucks - Super quiet (and yes, I know how to install an undersaddle pickup). I have to have my acoustic amp cranked up to get even decent sound. It has almost no low end, so i have to turn my bass knob to full to make it even palatable for an acoustic tone. I took a chance, and lost. It's garbage. Now, I have to take the guitar completely apart to return this junk.

Worth the price but not the time.
Worth the price......not worth the time. At around $30 you get that much sound so I can't complain much about the sound to price. Sounds as good as it costs......which means it's not good. I see other great reviews but maybe they're just looking for amplified sound. This us thin and tinny. I'm using it in a big solid spruce blooming guitar. Again.....I am not knocking it because the price works. The problem is you spend an hour or so putting all of this in and placing everything just right and it just isnt worth it. I would not perform with this. I'd use it for practice but no way am I sitting at a bat or restaurant and playing in front of people. Even my wife said "do you have knobs to make that sound better" Also just fyi I had problems with the jack and got a lot of static. I had to stick my hand in and wiggle wires and it straightened up. Obviously low quality components. Just know what you're getting. Put it in a yard sale guitar; not something you use to perform.

A great cheap alternative to an LR Baggs pickup
***UPDATE JAN 2017*** So I made a quick review video highlighting the installation and pickup sounds. Please excuse both the audio and my playing. I'm not sure why my interface split the room mic in one ear and the guitar in the other. Also, I misspoke - the first playing demo is WITH the mic ON and the second with the mic OFF. This is the guitar straight into a Focusrite interface, no effects or additional processing. Let me know what you think below! I purchased this for my Taylor GS Mini and am really satisfied! I got the model WITH the microphone, so that' the one I'm reviewing. First impressions: The quality seems to be on-par with the LR Baggs Anthem SL pickup. Endpin preamp is made of nice quality components, and the wiring/soldering/construction is clean. Appropriate cord lengths are given to all components, and 3m sticky pads as well as wire "harness" clips are included. The one BIG thing missing was installation instructions - Google remedied that very quickly, though. Installation: I previously installed a piezo pickup in this, so I had a 1/8" hold drilled already. Following the LR Baggs Anthem SL installation instructions, I drilled out a small hole (a continuation of the saddle slot, if you will) by the high E to allow ay least 3/16" of the piezo to extend beyond the high E string. Slid the piezo undersaddle into place without any problem. The Mic installation was pretty easy, but be sure to watch some videos on YouTube first. Also, if you don't already own a compact telescoping mirror - get one! It'll help out more than you would ever know! Battery pack installation and the volume/blend mini-knob installation was simple - just pick a spot inside and plop it down there. Endpin didn't require any additional drilling for the Taylor style, but aesthetically, is different than the 3-screw type that Taylor uses. Personally, I don't care, but that may turn off some purists. Sound: I'm hoping to upload a video review with samples soon, but I am pretty happy! The one big thing to note is that this does not have a VOL/TONE control, but rather a VOL/BLEND control, which is WAY BETTER in my opinion! I should be clear: the BLEND control adjusts the volume of the microphone. The Piezo is at a set volume, so you're blending in a mic mix with the piezo. It is NOT either Piezo OR mic...it's Piezo AND mic blended. The undersaddle piezo sound is clean, but exactly what I expect to hear from a piezo. String balance is equal and clear. The mic sound is sparkly and definitely adds in a different dimension to the sound. At times it can sound a little tinny. One drawback is that I wish you could make the mic even louder as opposed to the piezo...I can blend in the mic sound, but I wish I could blend it in a little more and hear less of the Piezo with the mic. Small detail....it still sounds good and full. Bottom line: For $40 you're basically getting an LR Baggs Anthem SL (which is a great pickup!) that is easy to install, requires VERY little modification, and sounds pretty good. I don't think the mic on this one is the same quality as the LR Baggs, but it also isn't $200. I like the blend control feature, but wish the mic volume was more adjustable. Installation instructions aren't included, but really easy to find online. If you have any sort of acoustic that you are thinking of "electrifying" I wouldn't hesitate to buy this.

I've just installed this on an inexpensive Temu guitar that I use primarily for fingerpicking. Having the built-in mic in addition to the piezo pickup helps to give warmth to the sound, though I agree with other reviewers that it would have been nice to have a separate volume control for the piezo, as well as the mic. Never mind. It's lightweight, works well, and just required one large hole in place of the endpin, for the output jack. I'm just using a small electric guitar amp, though it's got a sweepable midrange control that helps a lot. The adhesive bits supplied are top-quality 3M, and extras are supplied for the mic and control module. Make sure you've got them where you want them, because they are seriously stuck there. And since no instructions or diagrams are supplied, I found it useful to print out a screen shot of the installation photo in the product listing. I chose to mount the flexible piezo directly under the saddle, having drilled a 3mm hole underneath the saddle so I could pull it through. Works fine.

Mala calidad de sonido

The installation for this pickup does require a certain amount of careful positioning while working blind with your hand inside the soundhole and it might be frustrating for the inexperienced. The sound is okay. It doesn't rival the units which cost 5 times more, but for the price it's a good bargain.
