GreenView Fairway Formula Seeding Success plus Starter Fertilizer - 38 lb.

So many bad reviews for this product are because people think this product contains grass seed. I used it mainly because of my slope and did not want to use straw because of the mess and weed seeds. I got one moderate rainstorm for about 5 hours, nothing crazy, but everything held perfect. Did have some bare/thin spots where water dripped off the leaves from my sprinkler. Grass pics are 7 days in. RPR Barenbrug (rye) germinated at 5 days. So I expect it to still germinate some more. I was worried I spread it on too thick, but after looking at other pics, my coverage seemed on the lighter side. I used 3 bags for about 2500 sq feet, so that was close to the guidelines. Also keep in mind it will expand after watering it, and the coverage will look heavier depending on the angle. 25% coverage is the goal. Looking straight down gives you a better idea. I did use a Scott's spreader on the largest setting, but it came out slow, so just had to walk the area multiple times. I got impatient and threw about a bag down by hand, which lead to some heavier clumping areas. Grass grew ok in some of the clumps and not so much in some of the other clumpy areas. So to recap... Not Grass seed! If you used Grass seed and nothing germinated, you probably had a chemical residue from prior treatments that prevented germination, or you didn't water correctly. Even a bad batch of seed will germinate something. So if you didn't get germination results, it is most likely something you did wrong. Paper mulch with tacifier to hold seeds in place and provide seed cover. Didn't have any issues with birds. Holds 3x water to keep moisture Marginal amount of starting fertilizer. Most coated seeds have start fertilizer anyways, also I had compost put down. Guess I will wait and see how long the takes to fully decompose, not too worried about it for now. Heard it could take 6-8 weeks

Sooooo much better than straw. No weed seeds to grow later. The Greenview seed and this product produced the best grass and does not dry in the heat like other parts of our yard.

This is a great product but a bit overpriced. Its great for spot seeding and won't blow or wash away. Just use sparingly as it expands when its watered.

We have a sloped backyard, poor drainage, and 3 dogs. Our seed has washed away every year leading us to have a mud pit for a backyard. I tilled, fertilized, waited a week, and seeded a mix of greenview’s perennial ryegrass & kentucky bluegrass. It’s only been 18 days and our dirt is turning green!! The seeding success only covers 750 sq ft so I had to use it sparingly…I covered as much of the seed as I could with 1 bag of this stuff. The spots that were well covered by seeding success are coming in much thicker than the rest of the lawn (pictured). It’s expensive, but it’s worth it if your yard has poor drainage or slopes. I’ll definitely be using this again (and more of it) on the other half of our yard that is still dirt. Highly recommend this brand as a whole

I bought a ton of this hoping it would prevent me from having to use straw. My allergies absolutely abhor me putting hay and straw down so I decided to try this. I put it down several times and each time grass did NOT grow where I put this down but did grow everywhere else so I see no benefit to it. The concept is great but.....the product just didn't work for me no matter how much I spread it over the seeded areas. That being said....I then took the concept and....I shredded some old Washington Posts in a paper shredder. So it looked a little like straw. And then I mixed it with 10-10-10 fertilizer. And I used THAT in the areas that my seed hadn't come up after re-prepping the area. Boom. THAT worked. I kept it wet the same as I had the product here and got great results. So I can't recommend this product sadly. I was hopeful.

I was excited to try this product along with GreenView’s Sun & Shade Tall Fescue mix. While this product worked alright, it did not work as well as a household name brand starter fertilizer (with no mulch) that can be found at all the big box stores. In addition, the big box starter fertilizer included pre-emergent weed killer/preventer. The patch with GreenView Seeding Success grew alright like I said before, but the patch with just the big box starter fertilizer grew thicker and greener. The GreenView patch also grew several weeds while there are ZERO weeds in the other patch. I can also still see the colored pellets from the Seeding Success almost six weeks after it was used and it doesn’t look very nice. I love GreenView seed, but I won’t be buying this again.

I've always used peat moss when I thatched and seeded, but it was time for a change. Those peat moss bales were increasing in price and the weight of those bales were getting to heavy for this old guy. Decided to try Greenviews product and very happy I did. Product goes a long way if you spread it right. Don't over apply. It will smother the seed. But very pleased with how it spread , held the moisture, and later disappeared. I'll be using again!

This product reduced my watering by more than 50%. I watered well until the pellets swelled and then I didn’t have to water for two days. Other seeds required three waterings per day with no success. My water bill was very reduced using this product. I recommend it highly. it has a wet slimy feel to it, and I understand it is full of nutrients for the seeds to reach success. And it did, I had a beautiful lush lawn from seed to first mowing in a month
