What is the purpose of putting alcohol in this body lotion?

Cetyl Alcohol is what is called a fatty alcohol. It is very, very commonly used in cosmetic products, and in lotions specifically, as an emulsifier or thickening agent. Cetyl alcohol is derrived these days from the reducing of palitic acid, which is obtained from palm oil.

I have been using this lotion for about 1 year. This last bottle I bought the lotion is extremely liquid. Has the formula changed?

Mine is very thick, just as it has always been. I’ve been using this lotion for over 8 years, so yours may have been exposed to heat or something in transit. That will definitely break down lotion. I would contact the seller.
