So I bought this for my grandma who is 96 years old and the Doctor says she has 40% comprehension with hearing aids. It was getting really frustrating trying to talk to her and one day she expressed how lonely she felt because she could hold a conversation due to hearing loss. I saw one of my patients use something like this before So in desperation I took a gamble and bought this little device. Well I am happy to say she doesn’t even have to wear hearing aids with this setup! We just talk into the microphone and she can hear me!!!!! I don’t have to shout and she understand so much more! No more guessing. I just have to speak a little slowly so she can hear each word clearly. It helps her block out the other surrounding noise and focuses on the person speaking at the microphone. It doesn’t work well as an amplifier for the TV. But we have wireless headphones for that. We have had this device for about 2 weeks and the battery still going, we turn it off anytime we aren’t talking though. It will work perfectly for her doctor visits. There is some feedback at volumes greater than 3: but it is super simple to use and my grandma used it after showing her 1 time, and she had difficulty learning new tech. The device is very intuitive and simple. They tried to make it multifunctional for the tv and other speaker, but it wasn’t great for that. It’s also small enough to fit into a pocket, except for the headphones but they included a small headphones too but we haven’t tried that one.

It works well. Has made a huge difference in my brothers life.

Very simple to work. There can be an issue if the volume is too high then it starts a high pitch ringing. Overall it really works it just a matter of getting used to wearing the headphones.

I bought this for my 84 year old mother-in-law who lives in a Country with limited access to serious medical care. She could barely hear anyone and just sat in her chair in silence unable to participate in conversations. I gave this to her today and she had the biggest smile on her face and is extremely thankful for how well this works. It will change her life and it will be fun to see how she starts interacting with the family and friends again. I am most excited to see how she feels after going to Church this week and actually being able to hear what is going on.

I bought this item as a gift for my elderly mother who is hard of hearing. We had tried the amplifier-in-ear route to see if she would tolerate a hearing aid. These devices didn’t work out..at 89 she had trouble trying to adjust the settings and didn’t have the dexterity to place it in her ears. This device is far more convenient albeit not a perfect solution to her issues...she generally keeps this clipped to her sweater or whatever she has on . I can tell when she has it on because she absolutely hears clearly and can participate meaningfully in a conversation. I’ve tried it on myself and find the sound quality very good although there is a lot of scratchy noise and echoing if the microphone moves or rubs against clothing. The headphones are less than perfect—they slide around a lot, and I frequently have to help her adjust them to stay on her head...I think this could be remedied by wrapping the strap portion in vet wrap or something to give them friction against her hair...She has some trouble understanding the volume adjustment and I think this is her issue and not an issue with the device, as I find it simple. Frequently when she tries to turn it off, she turns the volume higher which results in a high pitched squeal! If you have a senior who is not able to tolerate a hearing aid, I would recommend this device without reservation; it has permitted my mother and me to have conversations without my having to shout!! Caring for a loved one who has a hearing loss but refuses or is unable to try other measures of assistance can be a lonely road..I am grateful for this device and recommend trying it if you are in my shoes! I give this a reluctant 3-star review, because for some things it's good, some things not. This is good if: If you have partial hearing loss and wish to better hear the television or conversation in a quiet room, this device works well. This is not good if: You are in a noisy environment. It picks up just about all noise equally and mixes it all together, with very little differentiation of distance or emphasis on local sound. However, I must admit this device works better than others I have tried due to the wide range of tone and easily-adjustable volume. Not good if you have one good ear and are trying to get it to pick up sound from your deaf side. The earbud will block viable sound on your good ear and will jam all other sound together in a mess of difficult-to-decipher sound (in other words you'll be able to hear better with your good ear than with this device). PROS: Quality equipment, decent sound quality, excellent tone control, excellent volume control. CONS: Only one size ear bud... and it's cheap. Microphone extension cord is far too thick and heavy for practical use. NOTE: Unlike some other users, I did not notice improvement using the additional Olympus microphone. In truth I found the microphone included with the device to be of superior quality. It is omni-directional, filters sound better and is less-tinny than the Olympus mike. However this may be a subjective experience depending on the quality of one's hearing. I was testing the sound quality with my remaining good ear (which has good hearing)... and could discern considerably better quality with the included microphone. So... if you're wanting to improve TV or "one person in a quiet room" conversational quality, this will work fine. Unlike other devices I've tried this doesn't produce a lot of static or hiss, making the sound quality in quiet situations quite good. However, use in a noisy environment was (for me) an exercise in futility... with sound far more jumbled and confused. In a noisy environment I could hear considerably better without the device. This experience may differ per individual, heavily dependent on your hearing loss / situation. So I'm giving it 3 stars as a "works well for some people in some situations".

My husband is hearing impaired and literally, for years, I have been so frustrated and angry with him because he refuses to buy a new pair of hearing aids. Just won’t do it. Consequently, we fight constantly because he won’t keep the one hearing aid in so he can hear me. I end up shouting to be heard plus the tv is on so LOUD that I have to leave the room to get away from all the noise. I ordered this for him and it arrived a couple of days ago. In that extremely short time our lives have improved so much that frankly, it makes me weep. No more hideously loud tv, no more repeating myself (louder each time) a minimum of three times to say one thing. And from his perspective, he can CLEARLY hear the show he’s watching and is so much more relaxed himself! He can hear me and we can have a normal conversation. I’m telling you, this is really a life changing device! I just ordered another microphone so he doesn’t have to unplug the one attached to the tv and he can just pop that on and come out of his “man cave” to participate in the day. I had this in the cart for about 10 days waiting for him to decide. Finally, I made the move, ordered it and it arrived the next day. We couldn’t be happier, honestly. If you’re hesitating at all…stop. This is worth every penny and is even better than his hearing aids. Do yourself a favor and order this now. Also, I would recommend ordering an extra microphone for the reason I mentioned earlier. I just wish we had known about it, discovered it earlier. Would’ve saved a LOT of aggravation. This is THE best item I/we’ve ever ordered from Amazon! The. BEST.

I've bought many of these for my mom over the years, after wasting tons of money buying hearing aids that she kept removing and losing. It works great. The headset is great. The electronics are great. Batteries last forever. It's easy to use. BUT. BUT. BUT. Why a MONO jack? It's so hard to find replacement mono headphones!! And headphones are easy to lose in a care home. Please, Williams, make a stereo version. It's so much easier to buy replacement stereo headphones. And we need replacement microphones too. I don't know why my mom removes it and loses it. Better, make a version with a built-in microphone! (Although I do appreciate the value of being able to put the mic at the end of a long cable. Bluetooth would be nice, I wouldn't want to pay the price.) I have tried the competitors, but they are really a waste of money. I guess I'm stuck with Williams until a quality company makes a competitive item. But $179 is robbery. You can buy an awesome 4 band CCrane radio for that price! This is just a tiny amplifier. What? A few transistors, capacitors, and resistors? Pennies! It's a market niche for some good analog electronics company to exploit. It must cost nothing to make these.

Bought this hearing aid for my 91 year old mother. Rec'd in working condition. But after 1 week it makes white noise, cannot hear anything. My mother is very disappointed. What's the problem?
