Seawhite of Brighton A4 Concertina Sketchbook with Case, 140gsm, 70 Pages

I love Seawhite sketchbooks because they have cartridge paper. I have used them for all media. This one has double pages ... glued at the folds. I flip through it by putting my finger under the pages. You can flip continuously that way. I enjoy the ability to open out select pages to refer to them while still having the pages that I am currently working on open. I used it for a class and was able to open all of the pages of a project at the same time. It is so helpful to be able to see all of that information at once. I glued in lots of photos and fabric swatches. The pages hold them well and remain flat. I love the carrying case that comes with it. It keeps the book closed and protected, and has enough room for the materials that I have collaged into the book. I am excited to use the other side for homework projects related to the class. With the double, heavyweight paper, I don't expect any problems. It is fun to use, looks great and works well.

Warning: heavy, so probably not great for taking outdoors or travel. Purchase the smaller size for plein aire. HOWEVER, this is just the best watercolor/mixed media sketchbook ever in my opinion. Sturdy as all get out because of the double layer so you can work on both sides. Hint: reinforce the joins with white artist tape to avoid bleed-through from one layer to the other. I love being able to open up this concertina on my work table and "let 'er rip", creativity-wise.

This is a high quality fan-fold sketchbook / scrapbook. Even though the binding of the outer box needed a little more paste at the edges to eliminate the puckering shown in the photos (the book itself is perfect), I would highly recommend this well-made accordion fold book and outer box, bound in cotton book-cloth with crisp corners. Thick pages inside with two sheets back to back, pasted together at the side edges. Didn’t test the bleed-thru of ink or paint, but seems thick enough for water colors.

I was very impressed with the quality of this sketchbook. The fact that it is a concertina format is very appealing for this budding abstract artist to practice in.

I appreciate the format - but the quality of paper is soso. All of the pages are buckled (like they were wet and than dried) so just ok for sketching but not detail work. i.e. not the same quality as Stillman and Birn sketch books. In general so buckled only good for rough sketches

This is my third Seawhite Concertina Sketchbook. I love the format and they are well constructed. They do not stand up 100%, to the type of abuse I like to weld. I like to use wet media, so I wish they would use a better weight paper. That is really the only reason I did not give them 5 stars. Be prepared for buckling pages if anything wet is applied to them.

I bought this for a present but it is so gorgeous I want to keep it for myself! The slipcase and cover are very sturdy and look super smart. Of course I haven't tested the paper but it appears to be of a good medium weight which will take watercolour. Pens and pencils would be no problem. Ah! I just thought of something as I was writing this, I should treat myself and buy another just for me ! 😀

I absolutely adore these sketchbooks and will continue to order them regularly in a range of different sizes. For me it is such an expansive and intuitive way to work. I completely recommend these sketchbooks ❤️

Perfect for plotting my novel! I can spread it out, stick on post-it notes for my timeline, then fold it up when I'm finished. Open it up again to continue. It fits inside my bag and beats flip chart plotting any time.
