Flashing Light blinks on a regular interval
I bought this device to address my neighbor's dogs barking in the morning adjacent to my bedroom wall. the positive, when I put it out in the daytime and the dogs detected my presence in the yard...It appeared to invoke a response almost as soon as I put it out. They would bark about 3 times, then go silent. The problem is, there is a flashing, bright light. It wasn't readily noticeable in the daytime BUT is VERY obvious at nighttime. I don't see anything in the description about the light. But for me, this is a feature that is unwelcome. I tried to cover up the light opening but it still glows out of the device as it is white plastic. I will be returning.

Works well!
The neighbor's dogs are a real nuisance and make it impossible for us to enjoy being in our backyard. They have 5 small dogs who run to the fence between our houses as soon as they come outside and bark. The neighbors are even sitting outside when their dogs are barking and do nothing to stop them (as this is just what dogs do). We have 2 dogs that were trained within a week with bark collars and do not bark even when their dogs are barking. I put this device in a bush by the fence and the first time 2 of the dogs came out barking, they stopped and looked around. Then, the other 3 joined them and they seemed to be oblivious to the sound, so I turned it up. Four went back into the house, so I turned it back down. The last one left shortly after. They still come out and begin to bark, but are back inside within minutes instead of 30-60 minutes of continuous barking. I think how well this works depends on the dog breed, but these dogs have started to get the hint.

Nice small size, blends in with environment, unfortunately doesn't work in our situation
This is my initial review, and will follow up in a few weeks. After 1 week, it doesn't seem to have an affect on the dog in the yard behind us, even though I have the "bird house" located at the very back edge of our property, and it set at it's highest setting (50ft), even though their dog is probably only 25 ft away from the device. I have the mic/speaker pointed directly at the dog. I've tried it at 3 feet off the ground, and also at 1 foot off the ground. Anyway, the directions say "allow 2 weeks" for the dog to respond, so I'm good with giving it a fair shot. Stay tuned...***UPDATE***At the 5 week mark now, and unfortunately this device doesn't work in our situation. Of course we can't hear if it's working or not, but the little red light comes on each time the dog barks, so it appears to be working - it's just the dog is completely unaffected by it.Going to return it and look to see if there's a more powerful solution.

Amending my original review
After a few days, the neighbor dog is noticeably quieter. Perhaps she is finally associating her barking with the device, but it took her several days to figure it out.I felt the need to amend my original one-star review. I am upgrading it to three stars for now and will upgrade further if I continue to notice improvement.Original review: I had high hopes this would finally give me some peace and a full night's sleep from the neighbor dog, who feels compelled to sing the blues all day and night.Doesn't appear to have deterred her at all. We're both singing the blues right now.

Good item, but really depends on the dog if it will work for them.
This was recommended to me to help curb a few of my dogs who are Pomeranians and can hear a neighbor down the street sneeze. They just do the alert bark but it tends to get the other dogs in the family going. It worked on them for the first day or so, they would hear it, pause and then go about about their business. But after that they seemed to just ignore it. I don't think is a defect in the item I just think it's really dependent on your dog. Our shih tzus had a great response to this item with no issues curtailing their bark. I ended up returning it, only as it was the poms I wanted to target.

Waited over a month with no change.
My neighbors have this miniature pinscher (picture attached of said demon) that, instead of barking, does this short, high-pitched shriek. They force this tiny monstrosity out every evening. And the only thing it does the entire time is just relentlessly bark at a frequency that I swear is JUST within human hearing range. And it drives me up the wall.Enter this device (which I don't know what to call, because the item name on this page is too ridiculously long to actually even type out). I noticed that a lot of reviews mentioned that it took time to train the dog to associate the noise with needing to stfu. So I gave it over a month. And after that time, it has done nothing. I hung it up with a bent coat hanger to make sure it doesn't turn. I made sure it was within the range. And, most useful about the item, the red LED did light up when this micro-terrorist started going at it. If I could get away with shooting the hellspawn without any repercussions, I would. But that's not the world we live in. So the $30 bucks was worth the gamble. But it didn't pay off. And now continue to sit in my personal hell every evening, listening to the unrelenting shriek while my fake electronic birdhouse mockingly does nothing. ...there's only time now...

Battery life is horrible
The device seems to work to deter barking, can't say it stopped my dogs from barking altogether though. The biggest problem with the device is battery life. An alkaline battery lasts less than a week. One reviewer suggested turning the device off when not needed, but that seems very inconvenient. One would have to get in the habit of always turning it on and off. Will have to investigate the possibility if adding a small solar panel and battery. Seems like that may work to keep the battery charged, but don't know how feasible it is. I really can't recommend this item due to the poor battery life. Amazon shows this is bought together with an 8 pack of batteries, now that makes sense. That would get you about 2 months of use, but be very expensive to operate.
