Why does this mask feel like it's ripping my skin off? Did I possibly let it dry too long?

I have used this brand for years.. When you put it on it does after 15 to 20 min become dry. That means it is time to peal off then Steam skin with hot cloth. It makes my skin feel fresh & clean. It could be you are making the application too heavy. Try using a thinner coat..

Does this help with discoloration?

I don't think it would. Their pineapple enzyme mask has helped some people with discoloration from acne scars though
