Cave Tools Instant Read Digital Cooking Thermometer

I really like this little gadget. It has worked well for many, many barbeques, roasts, etc. On top of that, for the last 5+ years, I used it pretty much daily to check the temperature of water for brewing coffee. It's performed like a champ.Unfortunately, after 9 1/2 years, a couple segments in the LCD display stopped working. I assumed it was a dying battery. The battery compartment is very idiosyncratic. There's a little spring and trying to get a new battery in the right position was very difficult. And turned out not to fix the problem after all.Still - given the fact that the FACTORY BATTERY LASTED OVER 9 YEARS of pretty heavy use... I feel I can't really take away a star for that. After I declared this one dead, I bought a different "fold out" model from Amazon at about 1/4 the price. it is awkward to hold and use. After using it a few weeks, I really missed this Cave Tools model.I'm buying another one of these Cave Tools units!

After using this thermometer for a week and half I'm happy with it. The final readings are accurate and come up in 4-6 seconds as described. Not quite a 2 second ThermoPen, but for $80 less I'm happy with this instrument. Unless I'm preparing Japanese Kobe steak where seconds count (and which I cook by feel anyway), it is fast and accurate enough for just about any type of food. Did not use the CAL feature yet- the thermometer is accurate out of the box. If it ain't broke...I also like the design and the ease of use: the probe is long enough so I get readings at a safe distance for my hands; the fine tip slides easy into any meat and does not leave holes; the numbers on lcd screen are large and clear; they are also easier to read than those on thermometers with lcd screens on their side. It generally seems to be well built and waterproof- I had it completely submerged several times with no ill effects on the thermometer. In this day of computers and auto voice recordings, it is refreshing to see the company's principal taking personal interest in their products and customer care. Thanks!

I have been mostly satisfied with its performance. The thermometer has a convenient LCD screen and a fast response time, with a 4 to 6 second response time for taking temperatures. It is also easy to use – I simply insert the long food temperature probe into the meat and wait for the temperature to appear on the screen. The thermometer is a useful tool for both grilling and cooking in the kitchen. It helps me to ensure that my meat is cooked to the appropriate temperature and is safe to eat. However, I have experienced some issues with the thermometer's durability. The probe is somewhat delicate and can break if I am not careful with it. Additionally, the LCD screen can be difficult to read in bright sunlight, which can be frustrating when grilling.Overall, while the Cave Tools Instant Read Digital Meat Thermometer is a convenient and useful tool for cooking, the durability issues and difficulty reading the LCD screen in bright light are concerns. It may work well for some users, but may not be the best choice for everyone. I would give it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

I love these thermometers!I originally bought it in 2015. It has lasted 9 years. We use it for cooking, as well as checking the fish tank temp and the water while we are filling it.It reads fast, is super accurate, when just sitting out on the counter it shows the current room temperature.I used it to check my fridge too.I just felt like getting a second one, I'm always leaving it out on the grill.

I was using a bluetooth grill thermometer and returned it (2 probes registered 50 degrees difference in the same spot on steak - even after getting new probes). Stick to the old fashioned way - this one is accurate and easy to use and ensures that the food is cooked to the right temperature.

Highly accurate. I am an engineer and I tested the accuracy at 200 degrees fahrenheight with the boiling water at altitude method and the thermometer reading is spot on. Well within 1% Fahrenheigh tolerance. Reading stabilizes fast, just a few seconds after insertion. The temperature hold feature is useful.... very pleased with this item.Update after 9 months of use: I have been using this Cave Tool thermometer for 9 months now. I also have three other thermometers - Yogourmet, Eurocuisine, and Temprite. The Cave Tools thermometer is hsnds down the most accurate, fastest to give a reading, and most cosistent.'The Temprite unit is so inaccurate and inconsistent it is unusable. The Eurocuisine and Yogourmet thermometers are reasonably consistent but not very accurate. Consistency means a thermometer gives the same reading for the same temperature each time...it may be inaccurate, but it can still be consistent. The Cave Tools thermometer is simply excellent. Michael at Cave Tools has answered questios I have had over the telephone and I must say I am indeed impressed with the quality of the service and the product.
