Huge. I will update in a few months. I received today and wanted to share my experience and provide tips. First, I did not notice ANY odor upon opening the box. Second, It is huge in comparison to APC units I have bought in the past. I was an APC fan until the unit internal systems broke down and would not work with new batteries. I Wanted to try different and narrowed this down to Tripp-Lite and Cyber-Power 1500. Tripp-Lite is 900 watts. I am running: -Intel I-7 core processor -power supply is dynamic 850 WATTS -32 GBs Ram -Windows 10 -DELL 24 inch LED monitor -Yamaha Quad speaker with subwoofer Output is at 10% Out Watts 90, which is minimal Estimate backup is roughly 56-60 minutes, which is plenty, given I have a Kohler 20RES 20,000 K (with 200 watt entire house transformer) Generator. I live in Ohio in the country and my local company just randomly tested power and disconnected several homes without warning. I was on the computer when everything when dark. Not good. Then recently, our transform caught on fire. again without warning, and yes, I was computer. I am lucky my computer works at all, hence, reason for generator and buying this unit. Tips: -I recommend before installing, to look at batteries. just unscrew bottom and gingerly pull the front cover off but not too far because wires are connected. You will noticed TWO batteries are required. The support page for Tripp Lite will suggest (as well as in the manual), RBC 51 (two batteries). I suggest you search for RBC 5 battery set. Much cheaper (less than a single RBC 51). Also, I recommend you attempt to pull out batteries to experience the difficulty to replace these batteries. Not bad, but a little tricky. -the surge/battery protect outlets are on the right side (if you are facing the back side of unit), the non-battery outlets with surge protection only are on left side of unit. -Inside the box, the Smart 1500 comes with power (3 prong ground non-brick) cord, a 6 foot USB communication Port cord which needs to be longer (like 8-10 foot). Also, I attempted to use the existing USB port cord from my old APC unit and the computer did not recognize the Trip-Lite unit. This could have been fluke but when I used the 6 foot USB Port cord, it worked and showed in tool bar right side icon, charging. Keep in mind it also would show red x as though battery was not recognized. There is no software and no warranty card in English (it was Española). -when you test the unit, it will drop to 86% battery after testing. Just hold the test button for two seconds. Use mute button to cycle screen like output voltage, output load percent, Etc. when you unit test itself, it automatically will show estimated runtime. It will take about 8 hours to fully restore battery after plugged in so no worries. -Instead of installing software, use Windows, Linux, Mac power manager. Go to Control Panel or equivalent, go to hardware, go to power options go to ;change plan;. Look close and find: Change Advance Power Settings.; Now, scroll all the way to bottom until you see battery;. Click on the plus sign and make sure you set critical battery warning or equivalent if using other operating systems, to &shut down. The battery will charge in about 8-10 hours after you plug in. I will update when the next outage occurs and I will update in terms of when the batteries need replaced (supposedly not for 3 years). I hope this helps for now. Update: 6/19/20. I bought the Tripp lite UPS almost 5 years ago. I replaced the batteries once after about 3 years. The unit recently died. I was downloading Windows V2004 when everything shut off. I freaked out. The unit showed it had full battery charge but the unit would not turn on. So I unplugged everything and plug the PC and Accessories into a surge. Windows, thank God, kept downloading the huge update. I am grateful it did not shut off during install. OMG. I called Tripp*Lite and talked to a human being, which is nice. He was very helpful. He said the unit died and replacement of batteries would not help. So I purchased another 1500 LCDT. This unit works great during power outage. I mean i have had others that did not switch over fast enough. This unit has worked like a charm for 5 years. I have had several power outages and it just works. I know this is expensive but worth it. When I called the company I talked to a human being who was quite helpful. I love Tripp-Lite!

I've had a pair of these for closing in on 3 years. One of them recently failed to keep my connected devices online through a brown-out, so I contacted support. Much to my surprise, they have a 3 year warranty. Yes I know it's in the description, but I just expected it to be 1, maybe 2 years when I called, because that's usually what you should expect out of these batteries. The technician had me run a few tests; all of which appeared to pass, but since it didn't want to kick off the self test (might have been user error), and the fan would never stop running, and it failed to survive a brown-out... He wasted no time in sending a replacement anyway. I have an APC 1500 supporting my network gear, and has been kicking for over 4 years without issue. And these Tripp Lite's have served me equally well I'd say. I greatly appreciate the smooth consistent voltage it puts out, the informative display gives the nerd in me all the important stats I need. And the close to true Sine output it gives has pleased the most sensitive of electronics I've connected to it. This unit saved a high end gaming system from a massive surge due to a hot/neutral short on the service wire to my house that even fried my whole house surge protector in the circuit panel. Which is probably what killed the unit getting replaced, but my high-end computer worth far more than the UPC is alive because of it. As you can see, I take protection of my electronics very seriously. Here's my point. APC units are AMAZING! And you pay dearly for them. If you're trying to find an alternative that's a few bucks cheaper, but you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot for reliability and quality.. You can rest assured that the Tripp LIte line will serve you equally well and save you a few Washington's. When it comes to protecting 100s of $$ of computer equipment, or you cannot suffer the briefest of outages; you do NOT want to get a cheap unit that will fail when you most need it (coughBelkinCough). But at the same time, you of course don't want to wastefully blow your hard earned cash on simply a name brand and cross your fingers it will be there when you need it. You need something proven, dependable, and worth it's price tag. You will NOT have buyers remorse if you go with Tripp Lite, and the day it saves your electronics (not if, but WHEN); you'll be a believer as well. I now have 4 UPC units (a mix of APC and Tripp Lite, all 1500VA units) protecting my hi tech home and I do not regret a single purchase. These are quality products, and the company stands behind them. Be aware, that 1500 might look like infinite amounts of energy, as it is the highest single consumer VA rated unit... It will give a powerful computer and monitor about 15-30 minutes of life before shutting them down (if properly setup to do so, SMART units only). If you're home when it happened and that low battery beep is going off, you've got time to save your work and gracefully shutdown your system. I run a pair of UPC units behind my most critical system. Don't expect to finish that Breaking-Bad marathon in a black-out with one or even two of these.

I bought this in July, 2022 and it has worked flawlessly over the years and the LCD display is quite lovely and the display can cycle between many different displays: - Output Voltage - Input/Output Frequency - Output Load Percent - Output Load Wattage - Input Voltage - Battery Voltage Regardless of which display you use, there are always two bars that shows Battery charge level and Load Level (how many watts the unit is outputing to all attached (plugged in) devices. Note: Don't plug in a laser printer to the right side (battery back up). It can't handle it (nor can any battery backup); wattage is just too high on laser printers. It will shut down as a protection when you print. There's even a warning somewhere about this in manual but I learned this on day 1. However, you can plug it into the Surge mode (no battery backup/left side). There are 5 plugs on left side (Surge protection only) and 5 plugs on right side (battery backup + surge protection). As with any battery backup system, the batteries have to be replaced every 3-5 years. I realized this recently. I've had a few short power outages this month and each time the unit was powered down after electricity was restored. My modem is connected to it and I had to hold the power button down for 1 second to kick it back on. Normally it's suppose to switch to battery and back to AC automatically and instantly (which it has done correctly for years). All UPS uses sealed lead batteries which is same technology like a car battery (UPS batteries can be compared to small motorcycle batteries). You might already have experience that car batteries eventually give out in 3-5 years and need replaced; so do these! These are extremely simple to replace. These use two 12v batteries. The originals are "glued together" to look like one single large battery. I ordered these replacements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001NJ3H0C?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title which are a perfect match and only $45. Nice! These are two seperate batteries but will fit back into the unit. Just not "glued together" like the 2022 batteries I took out of it. That's ok. Good batteries should display 24v (there is a menu to show battery voltage on LCD screen). If it shows 20v or less, they're bad and it's time to replace them. There is a test button, you hold for 1 second, that does a self-diagnostic and show different things on the screen. If the test button doesn't do anything (except for a single beep), or you get a F4 error display or you have to hold power button (for 1 second) to turn it back on after a power failure, then it's time to replace the batteries. In my case the batteries lasted for four years, but your time might vary. I recommend to just swap them out every 3 years to be on the safe side. One of the reasons I bought this product is that it has AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) and outputs AC as Sine Wave. Sine Wav is "clean" electricity which is safe for sensitive electronics (modem, router, smart TV's, etc). I have an old school generator which produces dirty electricity (which is ok for lights, power tools, ac/fridge, etc). If I ever have an extended outage, I can plug this device into my generator and then plug my sensitive electronics in the back of this device. It's basically a "line conditioner" (those are $99+ on it's own) as well as a battery backup. 2 for 1 bonus, wink wink. There is a fan in the back of the unit. I think it only turns on during power outage and it's using the battery. My fan still works. I've had fans on computer cards that didn't last 4 years. So I'm pleased the fan still works. I definitely recommend this product!

So update i purchased this aug of 23 and the batteries are dead apparently. the display tells me its full battery capacity but just had a power outage and it instantly died. how can you have this as a battery back up and it has a zero warning to tell you how the batteries are doing? ive had the batteries out of the case now for 15 min and they are still 135 deg hot! major fire hazard. DO NOT GET THE RACKMOUNT ONE UNLESS YOU ARE OK WITH A NOISY FAN RUNNING 24/7! (Also beware you can not just return these to amazon you have to contact tripplite for repair and contact amazon for returns or replacement) i'd like to point out that I ordered two I ordered the tower and I ordered the flat one and the one that is rack mountable the rack mount one has loose batteries inside they just move around which I find very weird if it's going to go into a rack that needs to be solid and then the tower one is not 19 inches long it's only 15" on the website said it was 19 but that apparently is the box and I didn't order two of them because I needed to fit one in a different space and 19 wouldn't fit but 15 does so now I'm going to return the rack mount one because of those loose batteries I don't like that and it's also $100 more and then here is the kicker. I fully charged both of these with no load on them and I pull the plugs and the rack mount says 60 minutes runtime of the tower says 176 minute run time but they're supposed to both be 1500 VA , so what's going on why is one more than double with fully charged batteries? I'd also like to point out that the rack mount one the flat one has a fan on it that runs nonstop soon as you plug it in, the tower one the fan only kicks on when it's on battery power so definitely returning the rack mount one. So 4 stars for the tower 1500 version and apparently, I can't leave two separate reviews because it's the same listing with different models. update I called Tripp and they tell me that I have to call Amazon if I want to return the rackmount version. The only thing they will do is repair or exchange it if it is under warranty so I call Amazon and tell them what's going on and because it has batteries in it, they refunded my money and told me to throw it in the garbage I was floored I mean do they know that it's a sealed lead battery and not lithium.

UPDATE 05/17/2017: During the third year of use the UPS would go into AVR boost mode occasionally. I had recently moved and thought the new location had low voltage and the Tripp Lite was just doing it's job. Just after the 3 year mark the UPS was in AVR boost mode almost constantly. So I finally got smart and checked the voltage at the wall plug. 122 volts...perfect. The Tripp Lite was reading the input voltage at 109 volts and boosting it, constantly. I contacted Tripp Lite and of course they said "sorry, it's out of warranty." I had a power outage last night, and even though the display shows a good, full battery, I got MAYBE 15 seconds of battery life. Not sure if this is due to the unit being in AVR boost before the outage, or just something else failing on the UPS. Be warned. Great UPS. I've had my for about 9 months now and it's chugging along fine. I get over an hour use from my 47" LCD TV and Tivo when the power goes out. Should be more than enough time when a bad storm is moving thru the area to keep track of it via the news channels. I have my computer, cable modem, and WiFi router running off the UPS also. I set up Windows 7 to shut down the computer in the first minute because it reduces my total time to about 30 minutes. The only reason I gave it 4 start instead of 5 is the power management software. Don't use them! Don't even attempt to use them. While the information the software provided was great, it caused issues. Mainly, my UPS would go into test mode randomly at all hours of the day. No I did not set up a self test in the software, it just did it. After trying the various software versions and some 3rd party software I just scraped it all, kept the USB plugged in and setup Windows 7 Power Options to shut down the system when on battery. Works great.

I was hesitant in getting this unit due to some of the feedback, but I'm glad I took the chance. The reports of a hot plastic smell did happen, but it was brief, very short lived. It keeps the current smooth and without issue. There was a couple of important things nothing in the manual or anywhere told you, I needed to find out on somebody's Reddit after Googling it... you do NOT need software drivers for this unit. After the USB installs and fails to recognize, all you need to do is reboot the computer and it's all recognized and works great. Plus, this next part is an issue with Windows, not Tripp Lite. Windows will detect the battery backup, and without asking or telling you in a pop-up, Windows will change your power scheme behind the curtains. What this means, is that your monitor will go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of reading an article or something. To stop that, go to the Power icon in Control Panel and set sleep mode and rest mode to 'Never' and it's all back to normal. Other than that, this was a pleasant install experience, and I'm not dropping a star because Microsoft developers need a swift kick on the behind. UPDATE: 10/1/2020 More than 3 years later, this unit is still performing flawlessly! It saved my computer AND fiber optic modem from 2 major surges, it kept me up and running for more than a half hour after power dropped during a snow storm more than once, which was plenty of time to come to a stopping point to power down without losing work. This is worth the money! If it ever gives up the ghost and I need a new one, I'm not going anywhere else but here. Nice. Truly, very nice! Thank you Tripp Lite, for making a fantastic product!

This is my first non-APC UPS unit. After my 10 years old APC UPS had come to the point where the battery need to be replaced yet again - I've decided to upgrade to something smarter than my APC's BackUPS PRO 1100. What I was after - is to have an ability to tell how much power is left in the batteries to support the current workload and for how many minutes. Before purchasing it I did a very extensive research. I saw all of the negative reviews about burning smell, noice level and the unit being warm. Given that the overall reviews were positive, I've decided to risk it and try it out. Here are the results (SMELL) I'm now using this unit for 6 months. It never had any burning smell or any smell of any kind - I checked. Furthermore, the unit sits under my desk, so if it had started smelling few weeks or months after it - I'd pick it up given that I sit almost right on top of it. (NOISE) This was never a concern for me: my Workstation has 10 fans in it and it generates quite a hum. Nevertheless, I can say that I cannot hear this unit no matter how much I try. Even when my workstation is powered down - my SR2016 Switch (which stays on all the time) makes 10 times more noise than this thing does. So - no issue there. (TEMPERATURE) The unit is a bit warmer to the touch then a regular piece of metal would be in the same room. When I touch my stainless steel trash can that sits right next to my desk I can say that UPS is warmer. Yet I cannot say that it is concerning - the temperature difference is definitely insignificant. For example, UPS is much cooler than, for example, my cradled Western Digital hard-drive. (PROTECTION) I do not have much to say except - it does the job. Since installing this UPS I did not have a real-life power loss situation, but by disconnecting the power manually I can see that battery picks up the load and does the job. Power loss signal is clear and loud enough to be noticed, but not loud to the point of being obnoxious :) The ability to see how much juice left in the battery when the workstation is powered down is something that I was after ,and this unit does this well. (OTHER CONSIDERATIONS) I love the fact that this unit has some outlets that are routed through battery and some that are not. For example - I have some things that are not important to run in the event of the power loss- such as desk lamps, computer speakers ,desk fan. Those things are plugged in to the surge protected power outlets on the unit that will be powered down in the event of the power loss and thus will not contribute to the battery drainage. My old BackUPS PRO 1100 did not have this feature, therefore requiring me to keep a separate power strip next to the UPS. (UNTESTED) Unit also has one RG45 and one COAX protection circuits. I do not use those and cannot speak to the quality of those ports, potential noise level on those circuits, or the protection they offer. Overall I'm very happy with this unit. I certainly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a home or small office UPS that will not break the bank. Only time will tell how long this unit will last and how much protection it can really offer. I'll try to keep review up-to-date if any new developments occur.

Update NOV 2021: I have four of these UPS now. As with the original 3, the fourth's batteries needed replacing by the third year. The replacement batteries I purchased - Duracell SLAHR12-9FR - came with a 3 year warranty. All 6 of those batteries were replaced at the 2.5 year mark under warranty, half leaked, half had dead cells. This turned out to be a good deal since I got 12 batteries for the price of 6, and a new 3-year warranty on the replaced batteries. Basically, my expectations of consumable UPS parts has been consistent. Meanwhile the TrippLite 1500AVR keeps on performing like-new. I still wish a NMC was an option. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW: I started off with 3 of these back in early 2016, of which I acquired used from eBay. They have continuously and reliably worked from day one. They are built very well and perform up to the task. All 3 of those devices original batteries lasted about 3 years before I had to replace them (thank you BatteriesPlus!) and I chose a different type of battery which has a longer life and should get me 5-7 years before replacing them once more. What important to know is these are LINE-INTERACTIVE UPS. Quick & dirty breakdown of UPS types: STANDBY - Electricity comes in from the mains 100% of the time until it dips below a threshold, usually around 80-90v, and then kicks over to battery. Standbys are the least expensive type of UPS, but lack features like automatic voltage regulation (AVR) to help with brownouts and overvoltage cases. If you need really clean power, this isn't the UPS for you. LINE-INTERACTIVE (This Model) - Electricity comes in from the mains and has AVR functionality to handle the dips/surges in power. It is more aggressive at switching over to battery, thus providing a more stable flow of power to devices, especially for devices that are more sensitive. Online - Put in simpler terms, electricity is always converted from AC to DC, supplying DC current to both the battery and an inverter. The inverter then converts DC back to AC which provides clean, consistent power to devices. This is the best kind of UPS for the most sensitive equipment. The compromise on price is where Line-Interactive UPS hit the sweet spot. My only wish list item would be a Network monitoring card or the ability to upgrade/add-on a NMC at a later time, but unfortunately that is not an option in this device - and more broadly for this price range. Overall I'm very happy with the Tripp Lite 1500AVR and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another in the future.

Compré este No Break (1500VA) para proteger mi PC, Monitor, Pantalla y Xbox One. Sin ningún problema soporta lo antes mencionando tomando en cuenta que XBOX Y PC Juntos consumen gran cantidad de energía. Hasta 40 minutos de energía teniendo conectada la PC con fuente de alimentación de 750 watts, Pantalla Samsung 40 "LCD, Monitor Asus 27 ", Xbox One y el módem para la conexión de internet. El proveedor da 3 años de garantía para las baterias , algo que es muy aceptable. Soporta conexión USB que es una función muy útil para controlar el No Break. Viene con una entrada coaxial que protege los equipos conectados al módem del servicio de internet. Lo recomiendo ampliamente ya que con 3,500 de inversión en este aparato seguramente no compro más que la fuente de poder de mi PC. No duden en que es una buena opción para proteger y prevenir daños por falla eléctrica y tormentas eléctricas. Yo vivo en la ciudad de México y por las tormentas eléctricas se me ha dañado una Xbox 360 y los puertos Ethernet y usb de una PC. El envió es por parte de amazon así que no hay nada que decir más que rápido como siempre.

We previously had issues with various UPS from APC when running on the power generator, similar price tags to this one from Tripp Lite. The UPS from APC would switch back and forth every 10 seconds or so and would not remain on the line. We ran some comparison tests by plugging the SMART1500 UPS from Tripp Lite next to another one from APC, and the Tripp Lite UPS would not flinch, even when the fridge or microwave oven started/stopped; on the other hand the APC UPS would switch and click plenty. I recommend this UPS to anyone who has to run on a small power generator for extended periods of time.

El producto llego en excelentes condiciones, buen embalaje y funcionó sin problemas. Mi única sugerencia seria que tuviera un cable de alimentación ligeramente mas largo, pero en terminos generales es un excelente producto. Si te molesta el ruido del ventilador probablemente este aparato no es para ti. El ruido es perceptible en especial cuando ya es de noche y esta todo en silencio excepto el ventilador de este aparato.

Quedé maravillado desde que lo saqué de la caja. La pantalla es muy útil, porque no necesito de un multímetro para saber qué está pasando con el enchufe de pared y todos los voltajes de entrada y salida. Actúa de inmediato en caso de alguna variación de voltaje y al conectarlo vía usb a la PC, ésta lo reconoció de inmediato y funciona como si se tratase de una laptop. En cuanto se registre una pérdida de energía, la computadora hará lo que tenga que hacer en cuanto comience a agostarse el respaldo y suspenderse o hibernar (según lo configures en Windows) y no pierdas nada. Caro, pero lo vale.
