An imperfectly engineered but perfectly awesome Transformer!
Apeface is a fun and well executed modern interpretation of a whacky design from the late years of the original Transformers run. I love this figure! Yes, there are Transformers action figures out there that are more polished and slick than this one for sure. There are one or two transformation steps in particular here that aren’t completely satisfying. Specifically, securing the “gorilla” mode head assembly into place is trickier than it should be. That said, this is also an ambitious and refreshing design that’s worth the trouble. The Headmaster/Titanmaster gimmick represents the 1980. source material well and is super fun as always.

This Is Surprisingly Good!
A really good figure that isn't perfect, but definitely the update of a classic figure we've been waiting for. Don't let the photos fool you, he's much better in person than promo photos and renders would have you believe. The battle damage paint is a bit much in spots, perhaps too much, but aside from that, he's visually stunning in all modes and the paint apps are excellent. (Has/Tak have really stepped up their game on paint in recent years. Guess they did finally listen to the fan complaints.) Speaking of paint, a serious flaw in one design choice... The wing/shield is actually dark blue translucent plastic and as anyone knows, translucent plastic is one of the worst things to make a toy out of, especially one that's manipulated as a Transformer is. It's fragile, with time, it's known to crack and fracture on its own, and it should be avoided. For whatever reason, they went for it and made his shield out of it, then slathered it in paint, thick layers of it. All I can hope for is that the paint will be thick and cohesive enough to form a bond that forces the translucent plastic underneath to hold together. Which is necessary considering how much force is required to put the wing in place in vehicle and beast modes, as well as the yanking required to remove it. (The wing actually bends a bit when you remove it from the beast/jet mode because it's pegged in so stupidly tight.) Another issue is how tabby he is. The plastic has a flex/give which is necessary for transformation, but you have to force pieces around others and it makes you uneasy the first couple of times transforming him. I think he'll survive it for the long haul, but those first few times make you a bit uneasy. Aside from the tabbing, his transformation is pretty smooth and pretty easy to follow. It's a natural progression from one step to another and until the tabbing becomes necessary, everything moves pretty well without any issues and it's fine for older kids (8+ as on the box) and adult collectors. Smaller kids will definitely need an older person's help. For those wondering about his backpack from in-hand pics on Seibertron and TFW, don't worry. It tabs in well and compacts down very tightly against his back. He looks solid in all modes and holds together quite well. Nothing dangling or hanging off like bad kibble of the past. (He's really a solid design, it's the material that leaves you wanting a bit.) I do recommend him, I can't wait for the inevitable Snapdragon that'll be coming (c'mon, they made Duocons, they're not going to pass up a guaranteed sale. lol) One of the best of the Siege line. Can't wait to see what all Earthrise has in store. Apeface is one of their better figures in recent years and proves that Has/Tak haven't completely lost their way.

A good figure.
Certainly a good figure though not exactly cheap enough for gifting but hey each person has what they are willing to spend on gifts. Overall I would say he is worth the $50+ price tag seeing as he is a triple changer.

Triple changer ✔️ Horrorcon ✔️ Package was delivered quickly. Wish you wouldn't deliver collectable items in parcel sachets. Offers no protection to the item. Luckily everything was in good order when it arrived. Apeface himself is impeccable, he is fun to transform. His colours and siege battle damage make him look badass. Some people do not like his soapy/milky white plastic, i love it! It's never going to yellow like a lot of the other siege line already has. Great price, great fun.

Product review
I really love this item I collect transformers and this is a plus for my collection. At first I was worried about the plastic that was used to make the item but having it in hand I am no longer worried as the item has stood up to falls and my dog stealing it and no damage.
