Great read.
I am doing 75 Hard and have to read for the challenge. Someone recommended this book and I’m glad I read it. It is very informative. It’s a fast read and it reads like a story but the bullet points are factual. I really appreciate the way the book was written because the information was delivered to my brain in a way that I will retain it better.

Powerful Premise and Principles - Narrative Optional
This was similar to some Lencioni leadership narratives. It tells the story of a new CEO in over his head who lands a world class leadership coach who teaches him how to play "chess not checkers" - an evocative metaphor that gave me a lot to think about. The book is an easy and fast read. The narrative story could make the material more accessible to people who don't enjoy reading leadership material. I personally would have benefited just as much from an executive summary. The principles are great - the story adds little if anything to them (unlike a few of Lencioni's narratives, where the story actually helps illustrate the principles in action).Overall, a solid book for anyone seeking to lead an organization that is growing in size, scope, and complexity (or needs to), though it would not be my first recommendation for leadership development.

Elevate your Leadership game by playing Chess not Checkers
This book is all about strategies for high performance teams. These strategies were gathered from differences in the two games. With chess you want to strategically make decisions that were birthed from deep levels of thinking, as opposed to reacting to problems as in checkers. From this comparison was derived four steps that lead to success which basically involved: grow the leader grow the team, investing in the team as well as targeted development of future leaders and of course cascading communication. This was all set in the back drop of a story of Blake, a newly appointed CEO of a poorly performing organization. The story was captivating from start to finish. It’s inspiring and intellectually stimulating. Check it out.

Very inspirational book
Had this book recommended from a business master’s graduate. Very inspirational book. I was surprised to find it interesting and Not boring, easy to follow and understand. Good read for business management/ organizational leadership students or anyone managing a team. Methods used in this book can be universal and adapted to many types of organizations, From CEOs to frontline management. Definitely something to read if you don’t have much time on your hands as you can finish the book In as little as 2 days. I don’t regret picking it up for my book report. Hope to find more books like this.

IT'S YOUR MOVE - think differently and act differently in your leadership of people
"It's Your Move" is what Mark Miller left us with on Monday 8 April at the conclusion of an insightful webinar about his newest book. This wonderful book joins THE SECRET and THE HEART OF LEADERSHIP on my desk. Think of every positive word in your vocabulary and you can apply them to Mark and his latest work. The only criticism I have of this great book is using the games of chess and checkers as an analogy for leadership. I know Mark doesn't think of leadership as a game. It is complicated but using Mark's approach of genuineness and authenticity when working as a servant leader for people makes it easy to follow. He's done a wonderful job with this book and it is evident that Mark is all about service. KEEP IN MIND, ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS BOOK AND COMPANION WORKBOOK GO TO CHARITY.

Captures the Mind and the Heart
I have been a fan of Mark Miller's for quite some time and was not disappointed with Chess Not Checkers! It is easily read, easily understood, and easily communicated. While not necessarily presenting new concepts or ideas, it presents them in a manner that captures both the mind and the heart. As I was reading, my head was spinning with ideas and thoughts as to how to utilize the analogy and principles to lead our organization to greater success! Since reading, we have requested the book be read by all of our leadership team and plan to utilize it, along with the related video series and Field Guide, in a Leadership Summit already on the calendar. I strongly recommend this book be a "must read" for all levels of the organization. There is much to be gained!
