Why did the 2 reviews give this product such negative opinions?

Just (as of this writing) looked at the reviews. Both mentioned the product not being a decent part of creating a more soundproof room. Before I put the hat channel up I insulated the room - ceiling and walls - with Roxul Safe and Sound. Next came the RSIC-1 sound isolation clips to the joists and studs. The hat channel snaps into the clips. I used two layers of 1/2 inch sheetrock with Green Glue adhesive between layers and Green Glue sealant at butt joints, ceiling and walls. Once all that is planned out and done, for soundproofing you will still need to see if there are doors, windows, vents, light fixtures, and outlet boxes that will need to be dealt with.But the hat channel was sturdy and did what it is intended to do. I had no problem with it.

Does this works w the rsic-1 sound clip?

I used them with the Green Glue Whisper clips and it worked great but I believe the rsic-1s are the same dimensions so I believe they should work. You just have to squeeze the channel more than you think to get them into the clip but once it snaps in it is a perfect fit.

Can Resilient metal hat channel be used without clips?

Yes, but it won't provide much if any sound proofing benefits. The clips are what isolate or decouple the wooden structure from the hat channel, which stops direct sound (vibration) transfer. If you eliminate the clips and connect the hat channel to the wood framing, any vibration in the wood framing will transfer directly to the hat channel.

Can I use the channels on ceiling?

Yes, that is what we used it for. We attached dry wall to it.

Really nice quality hat channel! Used it to soundproof a shared wall in a duplex.

Really nice-quality hat channel. It has rolled edges so you won't cut yourself while installing it. I used it to build a floating wall as part of a major soundproofing project on a shared master bedroom wall of a duplex. I paired it with the same company's MarvelMute full rubber isolation mounts. The total protrusion from the studs was 1 3/8", then you add 1 or 2 layers of 5/8" drywall. If you want to learn more about how I installed it, look for My Soundproofing Journey on YT.

Required for air gap but you need other items

Very useful and a requirement for a soundproofing project you might have. So in my situation I had a room already with a wall. I put a layer of mass loaded vinyl on it, metal studs, 3 inch safe and sound Or thermafiber, the metal hat channel on the metal studs with rubber holders. Then quiet rock with mass loaded vinyl on the back. Huge difference
