I had noticed that my pool water was not nearly as clean and clear as usual. We always backwash our sand filter as directed from the filter manufacturer,also test water regularly. Started investigating and found out that it was probably time to change the sand in the filter of which there is 300 lbs. Not wanting to do this I found out about this sand filter cleaner ,it sounded great and I thought I would give it a try,boy I was glad I did as it was much cheaper and easier to do than to change the sand. After adding the cleaner as instructed, I turned the filter off for the instructed time, I backwashed the filter and couldn't believe how much dirt and gunk came out of the filter. Over the next two days the pool water was noticably cleaner and clearer. I will buy this again so I can use it to maintain the sand in the filter so the filter can do it's job more efficiently. I was having issues with the pressure in my pump. I tried everything including another product. I doubled the dose of this product and let it sit for an hour and a half, I did a backwash for about five minutes, put it in rinse and then filter, all my pressure was back! I highly recommend this product for sand filter system maintenance. If you’re having issues with your return pressure, before you go changing the sand or buying a new pump, use this product!

This is our third summer since we opened our 20k gallons in-ground salt water pool. As such, we’ve had about two years worth of using all of the pool equipment, including the sand filter. At the beginning of this summer, I found this product while researching how to properly clean the sand filter, besides backwashing. The product seems to work well, like a really strong soap which is supposed to clean the sand in the filter when you leave it in the filter for a few hours, while backwashing. However, we haven’t experienced what other reviewers here say about the product, that the psi on the filter would drop dramatically after using it. I’ve backwashed with it about three bottles worth of it. But the psi always drops back to the same psi after normal backwashing (same as without using the product). I will continue using it, but I’m not expecting any miracles in terms of a huge drop in psi pressure in the filter. Maybe our sand filter is still too new or wasn’t dirty enough to begin with.

I have a 40,000 gallon in ground pool. I have had it for over twenty years. During that time, not once did my pool maintenance man tell be about cleaning the sand in my filter, other than backwashing it. I happened to see this product while researching glass v. sand for the filter. I purchased a quart. I received it the next day. I followed the instructions as well as looking at a U-tube presentation. I poured the entire quart into the filter motor basket and then turned the filter motor on for about ten seconds. This enabled the cleaning solution to get into the filter. I then turned the filter off and let it sit over night. The next morning, I turned the filter to backwash and turned it on. You would not believe the gook that came our of the waste pipe. I backwashed the filter for about three minutes and then turned it to rise for about a minute. I then reset it to filter and turned the pump on. The pressure that flowed from the filter into the pool was probably twice the strength that it was before I cleaned the filter. My pool is now crystal clear. I plan to clean the filter like this every month or so during the summer. What a great product.

It’s a small price to pay to avoid having to physically change out the sand, which is a total backbreaker of a job. This quart goes a long way and really helps extend the life of your filter media. If you want to keep your pool maintenance easy and your water perfect, this is a must-have in your chemical shed!

We have had a rough year with our pool from algae to cloudiness. We finally got the water clear, but couldn't get rid of the clumps of 'stuff' at the bottom of our pool. We'd vacuum them up...and they'd be back the next day without fail. The pool is just a year old and we don't know how to change the sand in the filter - but that would have been our next step to learn how. With one application, we haven't seen those clumps of 'stuff' in over a week! It's super easy to use - just add a little in the skimmer basket per the instructions and run the pump long enough to get it into the sand filter then turn off the pump. Let it set for one hour then backwash. We didn't notice anything unsual come out of the backwash so we didn't think it worked - but since we're not seeing any clumps on the bottom of the pool after a week, it definitely worked! We've had the clumps daily for 2 weeks - so I am sure it was this product that finally helped. I'll definitely keep this on hand moving forward. It may not be cheaper than changing the sand in the filter - but it is certainly easier and effective!
