Meet a dynamic group of talented watercolor artists, in the comfort of your own home or studio...
What a fine way to be introduced to a whole range of watercolor styles, and methods. I had a hard time choosing favorite works, as every artist showed me SOMEthing new or captivating. The quality of the images produced for the Kindle edition also seems to me surprisingly good, and further info provided for each artist assures that an already-intense visual experience can keep going, as we follow their future work.

but I am now happy I did
I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this, but I am now happy I did. I enjoyed the artists that have work in here. It is not meant to be a comprehensive book of all artists--it is a cross section of the way some contemporary artists are using watercolor in their practice. I use watercolor frequently as a medium and love the inspiration that comes from this book. A lot of these are idea sparkers for what I can do.

lovely *little* book
I ordered this expecting a large-format book, similar to my other art books and was surprised when a little box arrived (a bit bigger than a shoebox) and inside was the copy of "Watercolor: Paintings of Contemporary Artists".Don't let the size fool you- this thick book is full of amazing, beautiful art from incredible artists. There's everything from portraits to patterns to landscapes to abstract compositions and everything in between. The one constant in this book is that all of the artists use a "fluid" kind of style. It's amazing. This is NOT a how-to book. This is sort of a gallery, in book-form, of the potential of the medium if you are willing to step out of the watercolor box and explore the fluid nature of the medium. There's no discussion of techniques or information about materials in the book- just pages after page of colorful images. If you are remotely interested in watercolor and are looking for a good book to inspire you, this is perfect. I'm so pleased with this beautiful book.

Some good art lives here
Bought the kindle version, which displays fine in hi-res color kindle app's (i use a mac). The book contains a few really excellent examples of the classical watercolor restraint, specifically, the details that one should exclude from a watercolor to make it such an effective emotional medium. Also contains some "junk" watercolors from artists with little painting technique, color management or composition skills. BUT STILL WORTH BUYING!I suggest absorbing the art in short sessions of 30 pages at one sitting. I just sat and stared at some for minutes: subtle yet complex, emotional without smothering, colors that remind one of the scene without being true. Some of the cityscapes capture the essence of how I imagine the light in Paris bounces off the buildings -- with just the right level of detail to show the vastness of the city without overwhelming the viewer.

Good For Browsing
I bought this book for Samantha Hahn's dots. There are one or two other artists whose work I like but for the most part, there are too many examples that are lacking in good composition and execution. But, I suppose that's subjective. I would have preferred more abstract pieces but I'm keeping this book for the insights.

Mediocre
Disappointing. No compelling pieces, most are bland. Lots of words, not much excitement. Not very representative of contemporary watercolor painters.

brilliant watercolors
I was drawn in by the colorful droplets of paint on the cover, and the inside pages did not disappoint.I teach a beginners watercolor class and this book will whet the appetites of my students

THE ACCEPTABLE FACE OF MODERNISM
This volume makes a refreshing change from the usual compendiums of the works of watercolourists found in, for example, the "Splash" series, and although a minority proportion of the work holds no appeal for me, there is enough "different" work here to make it a wholly worthwhile purchase. It's an American book, as the title spelling shows, but a significant minority of the contributing artists are from elsewhere. If I were to characterise these works, it would be as the kind you would want to hang in your minimalist, white-painted, warehouse loft conversion, although in my case I wouldn't want to hang the rows of coloured blobs or lines - a kind of untidy Bridget Riley derivative. I would, however, be more than happy to hang French painter Fabrice Moireau's colourful and engaging urban rooftop landscapes or Cate Parr's portraits of pretty girls, which appear to have their inspiration in Photoshop's "Threshold" tool (Why didn't I think of that ?). Much of the work reveals an illustration-based upbringing, sometimes with links to fashion, and is none the worse for that, for illustrators need to make their work both original and accessible, a useful grounding for any artist. The only artist whose name I recognise is Danny Gregory of sketchbook fame, and his contribution, as you might expect, is some of his typical sketchbook pages. Other artists' work ranges from the surreal (exquisitely drawn, but uncomfortable images), to the wholly abstract, and much in between, including unusual landscapes, cityscapes, interiors, portraits and still life.Because of the graphic nature of the works, the small size of this volume is not in this case a disadvantage, and despite my dislike of some of the contents, I still think it worth five stars for its refreshing originality. I look forward to more of the same.

Lovely variety of watercolour styles
Very impressed with the quality, the paper is thick, and the front cover even feels like watercolour paper. The book covers a variety of different styles; fashion, animals, landscapes etc. all of which I found really inspiring. Also found the preface a really interesting to read. Would recommend for any other artists who work in the watercolour medium or those who just enjoy watercolours.

Un catalogue
Un livre sans beaucoup d’intérêt à l’heure des réseaux sociaux il s’agit d’un catalogue de photos d’artistes pas sure que cela soit suffisamment pour en faire un livre
