Does it come with instructions?

No instructions come with it. I don't like it.. I figured out how to use it but found if you pull to hard it will cut your button off...

Can I fly with it in my carryon?

I have a couple of times but only without the knife incorporated into the blades. I have two of the old kind that have a knife blade on them. I do not try to take that type on a plane. You should always ask before taking it on a plane because they have sharp pointy ends and can easily be confiscated. It can make getting your pants rehooked a problem if TSA snatches your tools. They simply do not care if you have had neuropathy or not.

Does this item have a patent? What is the patent number?

As with all things of this nature, their own store says: … patent-pending button hook has a superior shape for a comfortable grip.. Moreover as with the whole idea— Patents are territorial and must be filed in each country where protection is sought. Since the rights granted by a U.S. patent extend only throughout the territory of the United States and have no effect in a foreign country, an inventor who wishes patent protection in other countries must apply for a patent in each of the other countries or in regional patent offices. According to Stopfakes Dot gov So that having a patent number in say the US may not provide protection to the creator.

Can this be open with one hand?

Yes, the loops on top of the blades make it easy to flip open with a little practice. I used it when recovering from rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder, I'm right handed and had to learn how to use my left and it was no problem.

Great device if you have arthritis.

I have psoriatic Arthritis in both hands and find it very hard to do up buttons. This is a great device and makes it so easy.

Best Button Assist Aid available.

With hand disabilities Buttons and Zippers were not something I could do without a Bottom Assist tool. I've used 4 of the el cheapo ones on eBay accosting around $15 each, each one broke due to the metal wire hoops snapping from metal fatigue. When this one showed up online, I didn't hesitate to buy it. Yeah, it cost more to buy BUT It will not break from metal fatigue and leave me unable to dress myself. Well worth the investment.

Great for bra straps

Due to arthritis in my thumbs, I have issues pulling up my bra straps. This tool is excellent for taking the stress off my thumbs. I put my fingers through the strap and use the hook to pull up my bra straps.
