It is challenging to respond consciously when we are upset. Instead, we tend to resort to repetitive, hurtful, reactive behaviors. Then afterwards we have to clean up the mess... Do you want to overcome this cyclic emotional behavior? Want to grow up emotionally? We all have deeply suppressed emotional imprints that are programmed into us through life's experiences. Until these emotional charges are consciously identified and integrated, whenever upset, like programmed organic machinery, we automatically resort to reactive behaviors. The Presence Process invites us to explore 'conscious emotional response' as a better way of living our life. Reading and applying the simple procedure in this book makes it possible for anyone, anywhere, to transform the quality of their emotional life experience from uncontrollable re-activity to deliberate responsibility. Review: A How-to manual on becoming more present and conscious - It's very difficult writing a snappy review about a book that can help transform your life, particularly when every other review says about the same thing and I'd love to give you something different to consider when debating whether you should buy this book. I agree with the other review that says this book isn't for sissies. So, who is this book for? People who are looking for a how-to manual on becoming more present to themselves (and the world), people who are open-minded and even eager to learn more about what's really going on inside themselves, people who are committed to taking the necessary time and attention for transformation, people who are ready to change. What will those people find and experience? Lots of text that lays out simple yet profound concepts and a 10-week experiential process to follow that moves the readers more deeply into themselves. The author recommends repeating this 10-week process 2 times, and I highly agree - more will be revealed and felt with the repetition. Readers who follow the process (morning and evening breathing sessions lasting 15 minutes each, reading a handful of pages each day, and affirming a conscious response as often as remembered) will find that they "get better at feeling" rather than insisting they feel better, as the author frequently asserts is the goal. What might they dislike? Frequent repetition, but they will likely get something different and deeper with each round. Plays on words - most of which I found annoying (such as "blame" tied to "be-lame") and some mildly useful (such as "emotion" tied to "energy in motion.") What might they like? A more tangible way to find stillness (read: easier way to meditate), a manageable and concrete process to increase present moment awareness, an approach that is extremely flexible for the various levels of readers' readiness, a dramatic increase in compassion, understanding, and peace. Finally, if you believe in intuition or the Universe giving you nudges to support you on your path - buy this book! You will be amazed at how the Universe will support your growth as you move through this process. Stay with it - you will get better at feeling. You will find peace. Namaste. Review: Open yourself up to the fullness and aliveness of who you really are - Michael Brown's 2nd edition of The Presence Process, is an amazing work. In this book, Mr. Brown explains what's happening in the human experience at the deepest possible level and he gives a very effective, practical tool to make it better. With The Presence Process, we are able open ourselves up to the fullness and aliveness of who we really are. What could be better than that? Granted, this book isn't for everyone. To be ready to take this journey means that you will have to have convinced yourself that what you've been doing to feel good and get what you want out of life hasn't worked, if indeed it hasn't. And, you would have to be willing or able to really experience the uncomfortable feelings and emotions that the whole of human race has been avoiding for generations. As an EMDR psychotherapist, I strongly recommend this book to all my clients. Not to `read' it but to `do' it; which means to `feel' life as it is showing up in each moment! The only thing I see missing, in this teaching and in all spiritual/psychological teachings, is effectively addressing a means to resolve the neuro-biology of how emotions, body sensations and beliefs-about-the-self are stored as limbic memory. Indeed, this is how EMDR therapy dove-tails nicely with the method of emotional integration and resolution that Mr. Brown is revealing to us. Having read the 1st edition and done the 10-week presence process twice, and now reading this edition and doing the process again, I'm really just starting to get it. For one thing, Mr. Brown is writing on many levels. For me, each time through The Presence Process has been like reading an entirely different book! Repetitious? Yes. Indeed, his repetitions can certainly create dissonance for the mind, which is a meta-teaching in itself. When that happens, notice the resistance to, "He's, telling me this again", release the messenger (frustration towards the author), get the message ("this uncomfortable feeling is me"), and then `feel' it without condition. In return, insights, new understandings, and emotional resolution can slip unnoticed into awareness, often bringing with them a new perspective and way of being in life. This book offers movement and direction towards emotional freedom, which comes through facing internal emotional discomfort head-on. Presence is used as the solvent for receiving what is showing up in our lives as what-is-required and learning to effectively be in that state of apparently negative emotional felt-resonance overtime is the Process; hence, The Presence Process - it's a life changer.

If you are feeling drawn to this book please buy it!
After reading a lot of Eckhart Tolle's work I found The Presence Process by searching for related work. The reviews on this book were/are nothing short of exceptional, so I added it to my cart. When it came, I have to admit initally I was not impressed... the writing was repetitive and vague, and I didn't yet have the capacity to digest its contents. But because I had an idea of where he was going, I proceeded to read through it. This was my first time through the "process." A little bored, I would read through the weekly chapters and go about my business. Then slowly, it would dawn on me that I was unconsciously doing exactly what he had described in the chapter. I began to realize how much of my actions (and reactions) I was unaware of -- acting out of conditioned mental and emotional reflexes. It is so true that this book must be EXPERIENCED! There is no way to digest it mentally... to understand it with the intellect. As the weeks went on, I found myself melting... thawing out places I didn't even know were there. My life was changing in ways imperceptible to anyone but me. And I was simply reading through it! By the 8th or 9th week I was hooked and already planning my second time through, where I would complete it as directed (which basically only added a couple breathing sessions per day). But I also needed to quit drinking in order to experience it completely (something I did have the courage to do after the first 10 weeks). I just started week two of my second time through, and am in complete awe at the depth, clarity, precision, gentleness, and compassion of this text. It is one of the most beautiful and exceptional books I have read in my life. But let me say what he asks you to do is not EASY. And it must be done alone. It is a self-facilitated process that requires courage and humility, and will return to you 10 fold what you put into it. That is why I say, if you're on the fence, or if you've looked at it and not been impressed, give it a chance. Just read it cover to cover and see for yourself.

If so this book can be your best friend. It has been said many times by ...
Are you looking for a way to really change your life? If so this book can be your best friend. It has been said many times by honest honorable individuals that change MUST come from within and not through a guru. This book provide's for your change and clearing within by working on your self. Michael Brown walks you through 10 specific, 1 week sessions. This book is the real deal. 9/24/17 I really avoided saying what i thought would turn off potential buyers. Here is a continuation of how this book can assist one in their spiritual path, whatever that may be at this time. The most important understanding that all will eventually learn is that a Bit of GOD is within everyone, no matter whether your religious or not. This indweller has many names but that really doesn't matter, what matters is that we all should want to speak to him/her directly and for that our mind/ego voice must be still. This indweller is always working; however, only unknown to us & in the background and only commences by direct communication when the mind/ego voice is quiet. After we have cleaned up or lives while on Earth, if we're fortunate and work hard while on our path of discovery, there is direct communication. We need to let go of our belief structure and judgements and clear our body of current and long ago held emotions. This is where this particular book comes to the front of the class. His 10 week lessons work through what is called " connective breathing". This 10 week work will serve to start the process of quieting the monkey mind and start the process of releasing a lifetime of old and current emotions. This book isn't the only work one needs to utilize on their path but is really a big, big help. Once you master being "Present" your in what I call the NOW. You don't dwell in the PAST or the FUTURE but NOW! One can only effect change in the NOW. So, realize this book presents the guided opportunity to start or even continue the process of making contact with what I call the Indweller, GOD Fragment, the DIVINE Within etc. Your never to young or old to start the process right now for we all have a lifetime on this Planet called Earth and there is no time like NOW.

Very good means to release the past
I have just completed the Ten Week process in this book. Lots of good points made in the book, although not as focused on consciousness material as I'd have liked, it's more about healing the past, which can be a factor, although I do not believe it has to be. However, even after all the work that I've done on myself over the years, including doing connected breathing quite a bit many, many years ago, this process, which includes daily connected breathing, broke through some fairly significant blockages that were keeping me stuck and things have started to flow much more smoothly for me in several areas of my life. I must say, though, that this is NOT for the faint of heart and it's NOT to be just read, it's to be experienced. I spent many weeks crying several times a day, which was valid and fine, but may have been an issue if I was working in an office or something. It is all consuming at times so I might suggest that you consider doing this process with an eye towards being flexible with some of your daily responsibilities, so you can feel the feelings that come up to be integrated and not deny them or put them off because you're busy...

Straight truth
This is a practical, accessible guide to self-awareness that essentially helps anyone "relearn" how to be present. No matter your background, whether you identify as spiritual or religious or skeptical or scientific, the key to a better experience of being human is to simply be present. It's the fundamental tenet of awakening and the common thread through all spiritual texts and wisdom handed down from sages through the ages... So why is presence so difficult to master? Why do most of us spend the majority of our time distracting, avoiding and coping rather than feeling? Why do we get stuck in fear-based behaviors and fail to truly grow up? With clarity, (intentional) repetition and sometimes silly but witty wordplay, Michael Brown outlines a guide to rediscovering our own innocence and inner knowing - no guru necessary here. The twice-daily 15-minute breathing meditation is essential to the process (and much more difficult than it seems to stick with it for the full 10 weeks). If you commit to the process, your life WILL change - you inevitably become more observant and objective of your thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviors. He gives fair warning that this is a deeply uncomfortable process and to not expect to feel "better" - quite the contrary, it's incredibly unsettling to see the self you've constructed dissolving before your very eyes, or at least coming into serious question. It's also the greatest adventure anyone can undertake - getting to the core of what's real and true and waking up from the dream we call life. My experience while studying this book and doing the practice was a potent sense of wonder, deeper connection to myself and unexpected awarenesses and insights that have proven to be sustaining. I have been engaged in experiential self-awareness work for years now, and this provided another language and perspective to help me see myself in every reflection around me and take full responsibility for my life. I recommend this book to everyone I know who's wondering how to support themselves in a life of self-inquiry and unraveling.

A Prescriptive Guide for How to Become More Present
This is a life-changing book. As the title indicates, the book directs the reader through a process. There are assignments, which I followed as closely as I could throughout the reading of the book. So my review of the book should be viewed with that caveat. (I don't know what impact the book would have had I not followed the instructions.) Michael Brown lays out a 10-week program for learning how to live from a state of present-moment awareness. Getting to that place is its own reward and of course, the promise of the book. Prior to encountering The Presence Process, I was already pursuing a path of meditation as a means of seeking present-moment awareness. I view the progress I've made through the book as a continuation along a life-long journey, not a quick fix, easy outcome experience. Nevertheless, I have progressed meaningfully as a result of reading the book and following the author's recommendations. Worth noting, some of the things that brought about the most impact were those recommendations I resisted at first. For example, the author indicates that mediation is to be done using a method of continuous breathing (no pausing between the in- and out-breaths). I didn't understand how this was supposed to work, didn't like it, and didn't want to do it. However, I was committed to following the steps as instructed, so I worked on trying to figure it out. After struggling with this for about a week, I finally discovered how I could engage in this practice and found it a very meaningful element in my meditation practice. It helped take me to a deeper place of focus and presence. Following the process outlined in the book will take a lot of work. The author specifically directs you to experience emotions you've hidden from your entire life. He gives you the tools for doing this and tells you it won't be easy. He's right. But the rewards for doing this are immense. Ultimately, the promise is the ability to love and accept yourself, as you are, in each present moment. How awesome is that? The author also recommends going through the 10-week process several times, indicating that each time through will bring new growth. I've been through it once and look forward to doing it again.

The Presence Process and the Laws of Three and Seven
Michael Brown, a music journalist, developed an acutely painful neurological condition called Horton’s Syndrome for which there was no medical cure. A nine-year odyssey led to his integration of his painful condition and birthed The Presence Process. The final goal of the presence process is “entering into non-dual lived experience, abiding in felt-oneness with total and abiding Presence” (p. xvii). “Presence,” he defines, is authentic beingness where one lives in present moment awareness. While I found his process a powerful tool for helping me lead an authentically joyful life, I was most intrigued by the fact that his work seems to express The Law of Three and The Law of Seven. The Law of Three is the basic principle of how things are created. The Law of Seven is the basic principle of how things are maintained. For example, he identifies three core emotions: fear, anger and sadness/grief that signal not-yet-resolved emotional memories and wounds from early childhood that are causing pain in our adult lives. These core emotional charges repeat every seven years. In response to emotional charges one can either react to them or integrate them. His trinity of reactive behaviors are: Getting upset Blaming Feeling guilt, regret or shame His trinity of emotional integration are: Dismissing the messenger Receiving the message Feeling unconditionally His Presence Process is a trinity that allows one to integrate the emotional charges: A breathing practice Conscious responses Weekly text and perceptual tools I have come upon this book in the last years of a very long life as a physician psychiatrist and certified psychoanalyst. I find it a powerful tool that complements that work that I was trained to do.

One of the major books of self-help of the past 30 years !!
As a writer, translator and publisher, specialized in self-help books, I have read hundreds if not couple thousands of them. This one is a UNIQUE one ! I consider it at least as valuable as Miguel Ruiz "Four Agreements". It offers the reader a simple tool to work on one of the main issues of our time : healing the human heart. Healing our wounded emotional body. Allowing ourselves to no longer have our adult life constantly off set by our inner wounded child. It is not a directive, controlling approach. The Process that Michael offers only creates the right conditions for Presence to do its work through us. Healing happens. It's even a secondary result in many ways. If I had to keep just one self-help book, of all the ones I have ever read, it might very well be just thie ONE !

Life Changing
I have been meditating sketchily for 18 years now . I have come to understand that my practice was irregular because inevitably ,emotional charges as Michael puts them , would get activated . Subconsciously ,I now realise ,I linked this to my practice and therefore was held back from it . Reading this book and practicing it has been, and continues to be ,a revelation into myself . I have much to integrate and learn but so far I have experienced that this Process took me deep into my heart and therefore into the hurt we all have inherited on this planet filled with pain and suffering . It is simple and yet not easy at all to complete . It feels as if you are challenging the very operating system you were born into . At times I was sobbing every hour as old emotions surfaced . And yet ,each time I release trapped emotions as an ongoing process, deeper clarity and equanimity find more space to reside . I think that it is the natural next step for someone who ,like me ,took up meditation ony to find that I had to wade through my own emotional junk on the banks to get to the stillness of peace inside my Mind -lake . I have experienced the process only once so far but plan to do it again and again . I think ,judging from my own experience and other reviews ,that it is something one would do only after a certain level of spiritual maturity .It would appeal only after a certain phase in ones evolution ,I think . If it does ,stay with it and you fill find tools and insights that help navigate Life in all its hues ,both light and dark .
