The instructions are gibberish. Where is the water level set? I don’t have what’s pictured. Where is the “drain pipe”? Lord have mercy

You can't set the water level. I have set a hose into it and left, but sometimes it's filled nearly to the top because I get back too late. There is an over flow opening so you can never overfill it. I don't know where this water goes, but I'm hoping it goes to the drain!

is it mandatory to drain and refil to rinse or can we run water for a while while its spinning and then spin dry without water running?

Honestly, it really depends on how dirty your clothes are and how clean you want to get them. My hubby works at our local mine and comes home in muddy clothes- I do a full second cycle to rinse on the washer side. My kids pj's, that they only sleep in, I'll do a quick rinse on the spinner side (without it spinning first then start spinning and turn off water once it gets going good).

If pump stops working will it drain using gravity or is the unit useless?

I used to hook the drain pipe into the toilet. The pump hasn't quit working, but it doesn't work as good as it used to. It's a lot noisier, but does still work. I now drain it into the shower, so it doesn't have to strain pushing water up into the toilet.
