Sharp, Smooth, and Consistently Reliable – My Go-To Blade for Daily Shaving
After testing multiple safety razor blades over the past year, Astra Platinum has stood out for its consistent balance of sharpness, smoothness, and durability. I’ve used these blades with both aggressive and mild razors (Merkur 34C and Edwin Jagger DE89), and they perform reliably in both. Performance Highlights: Smooth on first pass: Even on 2-day stubble, the first stroke feels clean without tugging. Efficient cutting: I typically get 4–5 comfortable shaves per blade, which is excellent value. Minimal irritation: I have sensitive skin, and these don’t leave razor burn or nicks when used with proper technique. Consistent quality: Every blade I've used so far has been free of defects and evenly coated. They come individually wrapped in wax paper, which helps prevent accidental cuts when loading. I store a few in a small magnetic blade tin in my bathroom drawer for easy access. I also tested these on finer areas like the neckline and jawline, where my skin tends to react — and still no bumps or post-shave redness. If you're just getting into wet shaving or want a blade that performs well across different skin types and razors, this is a reliable, affordable option that punches well above its price point. I keep restocking this exact brand for a reason.

Sharp but not too sharp, very comfortable shaves
TL;DR — These are my go-to blades for great, close shaves at an unbeatable price. Here is my review of the blades I've tried. There are a lot of sampler packs on Amazon, but after doing some research I chose to order around 30 each of just a few different blades to try, avoiding all of the lesser-quality "filler". I'll compare here and there to Mach-3 blades since that's what I previously used before switching to electric, and now this. First off, Derby is what came with my razor. These you can practically rake across your face any way you see fit. They aren't very sharp, on par with a Mach-3 that's been used a few times. Shaving requires more strokes which leads to more irritation, especially on the neck. That said, I'd say these are a good blade if you're super worried about cutting yourself, because it's practically impossible. But even beginners might want to look elsewhere as these blades kind of ruin the "shaving experience". Don't be disappointed if you just bought this razor and have only tried these blades! Keep reading... I ordered a 100-pack of Astra SP Platinum (that's Astra Superior Premium Platinum, not the regular stainless) since it's under ten bucks at the time of this writing. These are great. Beginners, start here. They're sharp enough that you don't have to press the razor against your skin—which you shouldn't have to! You're supposed to let the weight of your razor do the work as you guide it along your face in short strokes. So naturally, these are sharper than Mach-3 blades, but if you do press a little, you probably won't nick yourself. I love these blades because for me, they're comfortable enough for everyday use and provide good, close shaves at a very inexpensive price. Easy on my neck with care. My go-to blade. Great for beginners and pros alike, and eligible for Subscribe & Save! Wilkinson Sword Classic seem to be great blades for people who have their technique down pretty well. Compared to Astra SP Platinum, they are sharper. They provided the best shave of the lot, but I did nick myself here and there on my neck and below my chin the first time around. Do not push these blades against your skin. It doesn't take much mastery to use these, and they're worth working up to. Downside: more than twice the price of Astra SP Platinum. I'll keep some of these around for days when I want the closest shave possible, or I just feel like something different. If you're new to traditional shaving or think Mach-3 blades are sharp, maybe don't start here, but definitely try them out. Feather "New Hi Stainless" Platinum Coated blades are exactly what the reviews say: sharp. My first shave I got a good amount of nicks, but my second I had almost none. I adapted well, and you have to; each brand is a little different and the best require good technique, but some are more forgiving than others. These are negligibly sharper than the Wilkinson Sword Classic but they aren't forgiving at all and I didn't achieve any better of a shave. They're incredibly sharp compared to a Mach-3 blade. At 2x the price of the aforementioned and more than 3x the price of Astra SP Platinum, I won't be keeping these on hand, but your mileage may vary. If you only want the sharpest blade around, this is it. Fun fact: these come ten to a pack instead of five. In conclusion, I'm sticking with Astra SP Platinum for regular use and Wilkinson Sword Classic when I'm up for something sharper. I shave every other day, and either is priced reasonably enough that if I want, I can use each side of a blade just once for a fresh edge every shave. That's about a 100-pack every year, so do the maths on price. Of course, both brands last much longer than this if you're looking for even better value.

I use these in my Leaf shaver to shave my hea
I use these in my Leaf shaver to shave my head. I switch to a new blade every week. I have been using Astras for about 5 years and am very happy with the quality of these razors. They are sharp, give a great shave and a great value for the price. Highly recommend.

Great blades at an even better price! Changed my life!
I am new to DE shaving. I've spent the past few years through college just using my beard trimmer to get the 5 o clock shadow look because I got ingrown hairs and razor burn no matter what. I had tried $200 electric braun razors, top of the line 5 blade razors, specialty shaving creams and gels, and sensitive skin razors. No matter what avenue I took, I would end up with extremely sensitive skin due to razor burn on my neck, and ingrown hairs all over my face. I had contemplated switching to DE for years, but was hesitant due to the "learning curve." However, I have to say this is by far the best investment I've ever made. I have only cute myself once, and that was due to a sampler pack of blades I initially purchased. I gave about 20 blades a shot, and the Astra platinum blades were the best for my face. Feathers were undoubtedly the sharpest of the pack, but too sharp for my skin (hence how I got my first and only DE cut). After sampling so many blades, I knew this was the blade for me. 1 blades lasts a good 3 shaves, more if you have softer whiskers, but since they're so cheap, I switch mine out every 2 shaves just to get the best quality shave I can get. I bought a VDH handle from target for $18, and a highly rated shave soap (prorasaro?), a badger brush, and haven't looked back since. In just two weeks of shaving consistently every other day with these blades, my face and neck have completely cleared up. My girlfriend noticed and asked what I was doing differently and said my face has never been so smooth. I usually do a triple pass shave every other day, lathering up in between each pass. I know, without a doubt this is the blade for me, but I would still suggest trying a sample pack first. At any rate, even though my trimmer was definitely the cheapest shaving route, I could never label that as a shave. I can now enjoy have a smooth, blemish-free face all the time, and enjoy the shaving experience every time. It's actually something I look forward to every night. I shave at night, after showering, usually around 10-11pm. My face doesn't start feeling like sandpaper until about 3-4pm the next day, and doesn't start looking unkempt until the second day - this coming from a guy who has had a full goatee since 7th grade and a full beard since 9th grade. The shave is incredibly close, without causing irritation. All of these positive reviews aren't just blowing smoke. These blades are the real deal. My only quibble is that I wish each 5ct box came with a blade dispenser like some other brands do. But I just toss them in a small cardboard box until they're ready to go out.

Oh, my God!... (Last update)
Last follow up: I moved out of the last place I was living at and I have notice a remarkable difference in my shaving experience... and after a few months I have decided to be fair and ad a last update to my very poor feedback. It seems that I was experiencing a great deal of allergy at the last place I was living at and it directly affected my shaving: These blades may be made out of a Nickel-steel alloy (or another allergenic steel alloy) Hence, whenever I shaved they irritated my skin in a gruesome way generating a multitude of burns and cuts... since i moved out, now my shaving experience has improved dramatically. The blades are not top of the line, but they feel way better. So, if you suffer from allergies don't buy these blades. Nevertheless, if you are cleared of allergies these blades may be the best value around, you can shave safely around 4-6 times with each blade if you have sensitive skin and you are hairy. Skin damage is minimum and a close shave can be achieved more or less. Personally, I won't buy them again simply because of the allergic reactions described before, but otherwise they are a very good buy. I placed this last update on top just in case you are not up to reading my whole experience with these blades for the past year or so using them. But if you have the time and are interested about knowing what happens when you allergies and use these blades, you can read my earlier posts below. -------------------------------------------------- I am a hairy person who needs shaving daily. When I was a youngster living in Cuba in the late 80s I had to shave everyday, and I hated it... I always managed to cut my face all over... I used these very brand when it was produced in Czechoslovakia. later on I migrated and started using razors with cartridges that were better but more expensive. Now I decided to save some money and return to the origines in hope that this time the experience had been different... I was wrong: I still hate it... and manage to cut my face all over... the part I hate the most is when I manage to cut myself yet for some god-knows-what-reason there is still hair around and have to pass the razor over the damage area yet a few more times... I will try a different brand, maybe that will help... ------------------------------------------ This is a follow up: my face still hurts from yesterday's razor burns and I have to shave again... I guess using a blade more than once is effectively out of the question, and I am wondering how comes this product has so many good reviews... this blades are worst than the original ones I used in the 80s that were branded just "Astra"... now they improved greatly the name adding "superior premium platinum..." I guess to compensate for the huge loss in quality... I read in the web that Gillette bought that factory when Eastern Europe collapsed and moved it to Russia where it seems to be now... problem is that in the 80s in Cuba if you were lucky you could buy some Astras if not you had to buy Russian blades that the people used to say jokingly that were good only to sharpen pencils... so, I guess Russian manufacturing quality has not improved at all... by the way, I thought that first blade I used was the worst blade ever... but after using this second one I have to reckon I was mistaken. Those guys with great reviews talking about these blades are good and can be used 2 or 3 times each must have the face made of stone... ------------------------------------------- This is another follow up: I tried to easy the shaving experience adding baby oil and cocoa butter to see if the blade somehow slipped on my face and didn't end up with so much skin irritation, burns, and cuts... I failed miserably. The results remain stubbornly in place. I took a picture in an attempt to show how bad this experience is, but sadly there is no option to add pictures to a review. The main problem with these "razors" is that they are just way too dull. You have to pass more than 10 times over the same spot, thus producing a great deal of skin damage in the process and this is not to get a close shave... with these razors you can confidently forget about having a close shave. After burning and cutting my face all over my face still looks dark from the facial hair and feels like sandpaper... ------------------------------------------- This is another follow up for the gentlemen who left comments and advices regarding how to improve my shaving experience: I have just shaved with Feather razors... there is not even a difference, it is like if we are talking about two completely different things... so,it is definitely the blades: These Astra blades are no good... I have also realized that I could improve my shaving experience if I buy a better handle, better brush, and better cream... My advice: steer away from these razor blades and pay a little more for better ones... ------------------------------------------- Follow up: I have been shaving with the same Feather blade for the past 3 weeks, and I am starting to wonder if this blade was made to last forever... these blades may costs more, but at the end of the day you will have a way better experience, they will last way longer, and you will end up saving far more money and aggravation...

Best blades in 36 years of shaving!!!
I'm 51 years old and have done Dollar shave club and many other cartridge club memberships that claim to have the sharpest blades as they all do. I've been shaving for 36 years and these are the sharpest blades that I've ever had. A previous review said that they last about five shaves and they do. These blades are so sharp that you can shave against the grain almost dry and or without much lubrication. I shave against the grain and if you don't bear down too hard you can get the closest shave of your life with hardly getting cut at all! I have used a alleged Japanese brand whose name I can't remember now as the safety razor and one other competitor of the safety razor category. I'll never go back to the cartridge category and will be a safety razor guy till the day I die! I'll stick with this brand for the rest of my life as well as long as they don't start to decline like so many things do sadly. Just for the close shave alone! I'll pay extra for that comfort and attention to craftsmanship!

Excellent Sharp, Smooth, and Irritation-Free Shaves Every Time
I’ve been using the Astra Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor blades consistently, and they offer a fantastic balance of sharpness and smoothness. The blades are sharp enough to cut through thick, coarse hair effortlessly while still feeling gentle enough to prevent irritation or razor burn. Each shave is close and comfortable, giving me a baby-smooth finish without any tugging or nicks. The platinum coating really enhances the glide, making the razor feel premium. I typically get about 4 to 5 shaves per blade while maintaining performance, which is great value considering their affordable price. They fit perfectly in all standard DE razors and come individually wrapped for safety and longevity. Whether a beginner or experienced wet shaver, these blades are reliable, affordable, and deliver high-quality results every time. Highly recommended!

Great razors for the money
I use these in my Leaf shaver to shave my head. I switch to a new blade every week. I have been using Astras for about 5 years and am very happy with the quality of these razors. They are sharp, give a great shave and a great value for the price. Highly recommend.

buy this and never pay for disposal blades ever again
disposable blades are a scam. this will last me a few years at least. the biggest scam is it is more convenient to use disposable razors. its not.

-Dolcezza: Il rivestimento in platino fa miracoli.
