They do last the school year!
This binder states that it is guaranteed to last the school year and having used 4 of these with my now teenage son, I can attest that it does. This is a highly durable, well-made binder and I won't buy any other. My teenage son uses this as a briefcase of sorts because all his work for all subjects is kept in here. He uses the carry handle and takes it from class to class. The left side has an accordion file of about 5 pockets (see picture below), and on the 3 rings he places his 3 hole poly folders and pencil case. He uses every inch of this binder. The first part to consistently wear out in each of these binders is the inner mesh see-through pocket because it is constantly rubbing against the middle metal ring (see picture below). But even that is not too much of a problem because it happens very slowly over time, and the slight hole it wears through is not large enough to lose anything from the mesh pocket. On his most recent binder, the material where the zipper attached to the binder started to pull away by the end of the year, but that is ONLY because he packed this binder so full it strained the zipper. The zippers on all 4 that he has used heavily have NEVER broken or snagged, the handles never broke, and the outside never ripped or wore away...but boy did it get dirty :).

Durable despite the efforts of a teen boy.
This is such an incredible product! Our middle school bans backpacks in the classroom, so this was suggested to us from a family with older kids. Like most 6th grade boys, our son of course was very careful with this all year long, cramming in his spirals, planner, papers, calculator, and utensils for his four academic classes. The zipper finally busted in May. I’m impressed it lasted that long! Threw on some duct tape and he made it to the end of the year. The three ring binder part worked fine despite his efforts to cram everything in it. (He found it easy to stuff papers in the dividers and his unreasonable parents made him hole punch and file those loose papers at least once a month.)Son #2 is headed into 6th grade next month, and I’m back to buy each kid a new binder. Worth way more than $20.

holds up all year
My child is hard on school stuff. This managed to last her all last year without falling apart. So I bought another one for this year because I know it's durable and is going to last. Great for every day use. Never had an issue with the zipper not working. Plenty of room for folders and pencils. Can carry it by the strap and trust it will not come unzipped. worth the price!

Wish it lasted longer but it serves it's purpose
I like the pockets in this and the size, plus the carrying handle. I just wish it lasted a while school year. I've repurchased several times because it's a better price than other brands that don't last any longer. I would pay more if the rings didn't become misaligned and the outer fabric didn't tear.

Modern version of a Trapper Keeper, an essential school supply.
My middle schooler was excited for this, and it did not disappoint. It is reminiscent of the super cool Trapper Keeper from my middle school days, but apparently much cooler because there is no velcro involved, rather a sleek zipper. The main compartment 3-ring binder holds three of the Five Star one subject 100 page notebooks. I was hoping it would hold all five that are required, but only three will fit in the rings. The front section contains the expanding file folders and is accessible from the main compartment and also from front zipper, so if you need to access this part you don't have to open the main compartment. This section will hold plenty of papers in the expanding files. Regular folders also fit in the file compartments, plus a couple more notebooks. The inside surface of the front, back, and spine is lined with a hard plastic to give the whole thing a sturdy structure and protect from the wear and tear of rubbing on the notebooks and whatever else is stored inside. This will be practical to carry around by hand with the carry handle on the back or in a backpack.

Yes, this is the one after having tested all the others
Our 6 grader is having some hard time getting used to the local school system: we moved here from EU and teaching style, homework are completely different over there...After having watched some tutorials online, we decided to purchase a good organizer binder and help him with the work organization. Since the different full size organizers look very similar to each other, we decided to purchase the most popular four and compare them before taking our decision. This fromm Five Star was our winner, no doubts. We compared this Five Star one with an "Amazon Basics 3 Ring Binder with Zipper", a "Case-it The Mighty Zip Tab Zipper Binder 3 Inch O-Rings 5 Pocket" and a "Case-it Universal 2 Inch 3 Ring Zipper Binder". Please watch the video attached for better understanding.Besides the fact Five Star is definitely better made, more sturdy, better made handle and in general more attention to details, it has also more internal pockets and useful storage space.Amazon basic was immediately canceled from the selection as a matter of fact rings are way too big, huge I would say, and materials are quite poor. No space for chromebook, nor for calculator and pens. The 2 Case-it - even if nice - are also not the best in terms of quality: the 3 inches one (bigger of the two) is nice but does not have space for chromebook and calculator. The 2 inches one (smaller of the two) has a pocket for chromebook but not for pens and calculators. Furthermore it is not big enough for the use we wanna do.This one from Five Star is big enough, well made, has space dedicated for calculator, for pens and the front pocket - even if not specifically made for chromebook - it can be used without problems for that purpose. We cannot say how long this is going to last but - so far - we are happy with the decision taken.According to tutorials online, the organizer must hold 4 pocket folders (2 x math, language, science) and 2 for homework (to be done, to be turned in) plus a notebook, a ring pen pouch, calculator, extra pens, chromebook).

Disappointed
A binder I initially bought my daughter for the beginning of school kept kept opening the clasps and all the papers and notebooks would fall out. So I got her this zipper binder in November to take care of both problems. By March the threading was coming out around the edge of the binder. And by May it was completely falling apart. I see now that it is listed for $20 but I am pretty sure I bought it for around $14. It had nice storage space and held everything she needed for school. Just the edge around the outside of the binder came off, the threading came undone and it came off.
