Works fine at GMRS band (462-467Mhz) but mediocre at the ham bands 440 MHz and 144/148 MHz
I am a GMRS band user a/ Ham Radio operator / retired radiotelecommunications engineer with more than 4 decades RF experience in HF/VHF/UHF handhelds , mobile and base stations designs. At 70 cm ham band (440 MHz) , WSR from this antenna goes way up and has lower efficiency than other handheld stock antennae. There is a lot of misconception and worries about antenna WSR comments/reviews here. SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) It's a measure of transmitter RF power transfer from the radio to the antenna but NOT an antenna irradiation measure! You can get an ideal WSR 1:1 radio (full transmitter power transfer) connecting a dummy load resistor of 50 ohms ( 52 ohm ) but you will have absolutely 0.00!! radiowaves irradiation from that! So stop looking and worrying about the WSR from any antenna . Let say :if the WSR is below 3.5 (30% reflected power) the handheld radio antenna is good .All handhelds transmitters are designed to withstand at least 6.0:1 SWR (same cases 10:1) before the RF power transistors/ antenna switching diodes burn out due to internal temp. hot spots .With the same wsr ratio , let say 1.5..the longer antenna means more signal irradiation and at the receiving location!!!..And also it is better a longer antenna with reasonable SWR than a stock antenna with 1:1 ratio . I already tested this tactical antenna with Baofeng V-1 GMRS radio and using a basic signal strength analog meter got 70% more signal at 10 ft from the antenna than the Baofeng stock antenna. Did the same test at the UHF ham band (440 MHz) with another Baofeng uv-82 and got mediocre results. An additional benefit to me is that I can carry the my radio as a fishing rod due to the long isolated and rugged antenna base mount. My conclusion: Will use it at GMRS not at Ham bands

A great value
A bit of a novelty but it does boost range, so it is a good buy for me. It will help my ARES work. Quality is good, but not spectacular. Size is unwieldy, but it kind of has to be.

Outstanding HT Antenna
We rarely look at our HT antennas with an antenna analyzer. I’ve always just thought a good name brand longer than the rubber duck was probably good. Today I used a Rig Expert analyzer to see for sure. WOW. As the photos show, this antenna had an SWR of nearly 1:1 on VHF. Impedance is great. But the really big thing is the efficiency indicated by the “RL” (Return Loss) of 28.6 dB. I have put a lot of portable HF antennas on the analyzer and have rarely seen efficiency this good. For comparison the 16 inch Diamond quarter wave antenna I checked at the same sitting had an SWR of only 3.6 and an “RL” of only 4.9. (About 0.4% as efficient as this antenna.) The rubber duck the HT came with had an SWR >10 and an “RL” of 0.6. I tested each of these antennas while hiking (posted online) and this 28 inch Abbree was the CLEAR winner with much better transmit and receive to a repeater. Since then I’ve used this antenna during about 200 miles of hiking in an area with repeater coverage and it has become my standard hiking HT antenna. Highly recommended.

Really boosts your signal range
I swapped my stock antenna for this one and haven’t looked back. Great performance all around but sort of cumbersome space wise. I’d suggest running a lead from your radio to a vest or backpack to help with this. It unfolds to over 3x its folded length and stores easily. A must have for anyone looking to boost their radio performance.

No complaints
Attached to my scanner radio and instantly got more "hits" as it scanned......and those stronger frequencies became stronger still It's a good deal for the low price paid. I used the washer to fill the "gap" between the antenna and antenna mount and didn't experience any of the issues other reviewers did and resulted in secure fit since the washer is rubber and has some grip. Easy. I used it on UV-5R radio and it extended its range.

Gives Your Radio That Little Extra Push.
With the stock antenna on my Baofeng UV-82HP, I was able to hit two repeaters from my motel in the Smokies. With the Abbree antenna, I reached a third repeater. Same thing at my cabin in Indiana. I chose the 28 inch version because these antennas are just a bit heavy, and I didn't want to stress the connector on my radio. For now, I'm leaving the antenna stretched out. It's easy to store behind the back seat on a road trip. Of course, if you take it on a hike, you'll want to fold it for packing. I'd recommend only putting it on the radio while you're using it. It's too cumbersome otherwise. It comes with a rubber gasket, but it fit snugly on my radio without the gasket. Just snug any antenna down, though; never over-torque.

Great antenna
Great antenna for the money. Worked great on my Baufeng UV-5R.

I'd spend more for better.. but its marginally good product.
I really like the idea and the design behind this antenna. To be fair, I did not cut one open to try and convince myself or others that they are made out of tape measure materials. To be honest, it works, I have seen certain frequencies "POP" more than before on redundant paths and travels, for the cost, it was worth the try and use. I bought 3 of what I believe is 4 sizes from Abbree. No problems with the shortest or the longest of them, but the shorter of the two middle units I used the most I have had some issues with and I would state that is again because of the amount of choice use over the other two units. As you can see in the pictures the insert has no threads, I am under the belief it may be pressure fitted and to someone sitting on a chair in the backyard or on a tailgate that is probably more than fair security to hold it in place. However on the move, attached to a pack I managed to snap two of these units right at the coupler base. Now I don't know if Abbree offers those separately? It would be great if they did, i'd buy a few just because but further I do not know if they are tuned for each length of antenna either, Abbree verification needed?? I always have a spare antenna on hand, a 9in rubber-ducky type better than the OE shipped antenna to keep me in COMM's with my team but what I have realized is I am just going to setup the radio for a headset setup with a PTT system where the radio is in its pouch, a remote antenna lead is going to be used to make the antenna setup more secure and robust, even if I have to purchase a official military version of the Abbree for a $137 plus the remote line system. I can always change out e BNC connectors to match a better radio than I am using at some point. For the money, its a good product I think and I have to admit both times I was going through some fair low hanging branches when the first one snapped, the second one I cannot recall how, just noticed it when I pulled off my pack. So I cannot totally fault the product. I just think that should be better than a pressure fitment or even just 2-3 threads. I cannot imagine how I have not broke the longest of the 3 units but the middle one not once but twice. If someone can contact me from Abbree about the adapters being available separate and a confirmation that they may be tuned to each length specifically, that would be nice and great information to know. I would at least bump it an extra star if they Adapters are available separately for thinking ahead but maybe those could be soldered in since it seems to share the grounding circuit ?

A good gain antenna though unwieldy
I purchased this antenna and connected it to my Kenwood D74. I live 15 floors above ground level and called into a local VHF repeater that is about 8 km away with all of the downtown high rises etc. in the way. Another local amateur, about 6 km away agreed to provide me with qualitative reports on my signal quality and strength. Firstly I tried a good Diamond tri-band antenna on VHF then I switched to the ABREE 72 cm antenna. I was told that off of the repeater my signal was better with the ABREE from the repeater. When he listened on the transmit frequency for my signal directly from the ABREE vs the Diamond antenna the ABREE far outshone the Diamond antenna. My HT gave no indication of high SWR or other problematic issues when transmitting and only the normally expected temperature change of the HT occured. da VA3NIE
