The Cats On My Block

We have needed this book for a long time! Children and adults will benefit from the simple storyline, the glossary that explains all the words and what they mean regarding TNR and stray cats, the charming pictures, and the loving way it teaches to care for the stray and homeless cats who live outdoors in everyone's neighborhood! I love that a man is depicted as the caretaker for the feral colony on his block! I purchased several books and plan to give them out to families in my neighborhood so they can understand and learn about what I do, and what so many others do, who help care for feral cats.

This is a very important book that teaches children the importance of spaying and neutering cats and the reality of pet overpopulation. It teaches them compassion for these cats and the need to care for them both medically and physically while understanding that they are not pets. It is important for children to lean compassion for animals and that they can help them and make a difference.

Great book for humans of all ages. The story of feral cats is written by and for those who are respectful, intelligent, and kind. The message is not pushy, just informative. The illustrations are also excellent. Use as a teaching/learning tool, gift/give-away, and/or keep a copy for your home library.

I absolutely LOVE this book!!! It's so much fun to read and really excellently explains the plight of feral cats to kids (and adults too!)... I take care of a feral colony in my neighbourhood and there are a bunch of kids always poking around and asking questions... And so many of them and their families have adopted kittens. I'm planning to buy a few more copies of this book so that I can give them to the kids when I see them next. This book can kind of be my "business card" since I'm definitely the "Cat Lady" of the block! :)... Thank you SO MUCH to Valerie and Jane for creating this wonderful book! Written with intelligence and compassion about cats who live outside as a result of human stupidity or neglect. I love this book and purchased copies to give to friends who are elementary school teachers. My friend who teaches first grade said the kids eyes were like saucers when he read this to them -- they loved it.Thank you for writing a book that informs and inspires about the cats who live in the shadows of our communities.

I read this to my elementary school Pet Club. Kids need to know that these cats are the responsibly of us all.

This is a simple way to help children (and adults) understand what a feral cat is, and that even though it is "homeless" deserves the right to live it's life comfortably and spayed/neutered.
