Two issues with this device, both based around the bent tubing structure. First, the bent hooks on the end have no strength and will bend quite easily to the point where they will pop off with any downforce. Second, the bent tubing will eventually flex so much it WILL begin to break. I've had mine for a short while, maybe 6 weeks, and only used it 8-10 times and it is already damaged. The good thing is, I'm fairly handy with creating things and will simply redesign a suport structure that will be stronger. Probably from wood, using the crusher that came with the device. Either plan to use this very sparingly or with minimal downforce. I do not suggest purchasing this item.

Otherwise, it seems to do the job ok. Putting it together was simple. It's size-adjustable, but you need to take it apart (almost completely) to adjust it. Different sizes allow for increased/decreased leverage and travel distance.Adjusting for different bin sizes:If you have two containers of equal size (trash/recycle), you're fine. If you have two *very* different container sizes, you'll need to break out the tools *constantly* to re-size the BinMasher. (Or buy a second BinMasher? No thanks.) Adjusting it for a larger/smaller bin isn't something you'll want to do every week, or very often at all.Summary:This device would probably be effective when used to mash something that requires a large amount of force. For less force, you might be better off manually mashing it yourself, assuming that is an option.

I rarely write a review on items purchased via amazon.com and I do purchase a lot. In some instances even when I may not be 100% satisfied a take it with a grain of salt. In this purchases however I put the unit together as instructed (fairly simple process) and used it as it states it can be used. First try and the hinge arm that connects to the handle bent attempting to smash simply garbage.You are better off using your foot to smash the trash down. At least your leg will not bend... hopefully.This item is garbage attempting to smash garbage.

flimsy/bent after a few uses.

Fundamentally flawed..... Check out the picture trying to use it with a 64 Gallon Toter trash can.It doesn't even fit on with how their handles are!
